Starrcade was the primary supercard of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) and later World Championship Wrestling (WCW), from 1983 to 2000. Billed as "The Granddaddy of Them All," Starrcade was the first annual wrestling supercard to be broadcast on closed-circuit television, before even the legendary WrestleMania. The 1987 edition was the first one to be held on pay-per-view and was also the NWA's first pay-per-view ever. From 1983 to 1987, the event was produced by Jim Crockett Promotions, and held on Thanksgiving. Afterwards, the event was produced by WCW in December. World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) own the rights to Starrcade since they purchased WCW in 2001 and produce their own version of the event.
