Tonight, TNA's Sacrifice PPV will see Madison Rayne defend her Knockouts Championship against the evil Angelina Love, but one week from tonight will see what I consider a monumental Divas Championship match at Extreme Rules. At the event, Paige will defend her newly won butterfly against Tamina Snuka. This will mark Paige's WWE PPV debut and it will also mark the first time ever that two 2nd-generation Divas will compete against each other in a title match in any forum.
As you already know, Paige made her mark on the post-Mania Raw by defeating AJ Lee to win the Divas Championship in an impromptu match. The heiress to the Knight Dynasty became the youngest Divas Champion in WWE history at the age of 21, and she became the first and only Diva to hold that title and the NXT Women's Championship simultaneously. That distinction only lasted for a few weeks when NXT General Manager John "Bradshaw" Layfield stripped Paige of the NXT title; stating that a Diva cannot hold both at the same time.
I expected AJ to get her rematch, but the word got out that she's taking a much deserved break. With that, a #1 Contender's Battle Royal took place on Main Event on April 15, and interestingly, it would be AJ's running buddy, Tamina, who won the battle royal and earn her title opportunity. To say that Tamina's a woman on a mission would be an understatement. Ever since she returned to WWE as a villainess back at Survivor Series, Tamina has possessed a drive to become Divas Champion, even when she served as the evil henchwoman to AJ for all those months.
Obviously, Paige will win at Extreme Rules. Even though Tamina deserves the title, it would make no sense to take the butterfly off Paige so soon. I think Paige will get one of those long title runs due to the fact that she was the most popular Diva on NXT and fans (myself included) had been waiting forever for her to be called up to the main roster. As for what happens beyond that, well, that's a mystery. There is one thing I want to happen the most in the Divas Division, but I'll save that for my next blog.
