The Untouchables were a professional wrestling stable that existed in All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) from 1998 to 2000. It consisted of Masahito Kakihara, Mitsuharu Misawa (leader), and Yoshinari Ogawa. Naomichi Marufuji and Daisuke Ikeda were associated with the stable, but never were officially part of it.
History[]
In 1998, Misawa was a main event wrestler and booker for AJPW, though Giant Baba was still booking the AJPW Triple Crown Championship. Since Misawa was nursing a variety of injuries, he searched for a new tag team partner. Misawa's previous regular tag team partners (Kenta Kobashi and Jun Akiyama) had broken away from Misawa to great success and had formed the stable Burning. Baba suggested Maunakea Mossman, but Misawa preferred Masahito Kakihara. Instead of either, Misawa began teaming with Yoshinari Ogawa.
Kakihara soon joined the faction and various combinations wrestled regularly at AJPW events. The duo of Misawa and Ogawa were able to win the AJPW All Asia Tag Team Championship and AJPW Unified World Tag Team Championship from NO FEAR to break their domination of the tag division. They vacated the All Asia Tag Team Championship to concentrate on defending the World Tag Team Championship.
Behind the scenes, Misawa was embroiled in a power struggle with Mitsuo Momota and Motoko Baba over the future of AJPW. This eventually led to Misawa leaving AJPW with 22 other wrestlers and forming Pro Wrestling NOAH. Although Ogawa and Kakihara followed Misawa to NOAH, the stable was not reformed.
Kakihara left NOAH after a single match and never crossed paths with his former teammates before his retirement in 2006 due to injury.
Ogawa and Misawa teamed semi-regularly in NOAH until Misawa's death in 2009.
