The Main Event was a television special produced by the World Wrestling Federation on February 5, 1988 that aired in prime time on NBC. This live broadcast remains the most watched wrestling program in television history with a 15.2 rating and 33 million viewers.

Andre the Giant pinned Hulk Hogan following a Double Underhook Suplex even though Hogan raised his shoulder before the 3 count. After the match it was revealed that DiBiase had paid off referee Earl Hebner to fill in for his twin brother Dave as the referee for the match.
The Tag Team Championship match was still in progress when the show went off the air.
