David Silva aka Sylvano Sousa was an American Professional wrestler, trainer and promoter.
Career[]
Sylvano Sousa was a Rhode Island-based independent/journeyman wrestler known for his appearances for the World Wide Wrestling Federation, All Japan Pro Wrestling, the Canadian territories, Amarillo and as a mainstay of the New England independent scene.
WWWF[]
Sousa started in the wrestling industry in 1969 working at Jack Witschi's Sports Arena in North Attleboro, Massachusetts as ring crew and general hand for the weekly WWWF events. After training with Angelo Savoldi and Tony Altimore Sousa became a regular on WWWF television programs and live events from 1972 to 1982, and later made sporadic appearances from 1984 to 1987.
All Japan[]
Sousa made his first of several tours to Japan in 1976. Sousa received further training under Giant Baba and wrestled for All Japan Pro Wrestling.
Vancouver[]
A successful tour of Canadian territories started in 1982. After stays in Stampede Wrestling and Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling the next stop was Al Tomko's Vancouver-based NWA All-Star Wrestling where Sousa became the NWA Canadian Heavyweight Champion. He also teamed with fellow New Englander Bruiser Costa as they feuded with Al Tomko.
New England[]
Sousa became a regular of the New England independent scene as a wrestler, a promoter and trainer. He made appearances for Empire Pro Wrestling, Top Rope Promotions, Bedlam From Boston and many others in the area. He also started his own promotion called the Atlantic Wrestling Federation starting in 1995.
In 2013 Sylvano Sousa was inducted into the New England Pro Wrestling Hall Of Fame by Howard Finkel.
Sylvano Sousa passed away from Covid-19 on November 18, 2020 aged 66.
