St. Cloud is a city U.S. state of Minnesota and the largest population center in the state's central region. It long served as a trading post and way station for native tribes for centuries before it was settled by Europeans. The name of the city came when a Frenchman settled the city and wanted to honor Napoleon's favorite suburb, Saint-Cloud, just a few years after Minnesota got formally organized as a territory.
St. Cloud is bisected by the Mississippi River, so the trade and industry of the region leans heavily on transportation and commerce. This has included being a port to send lumber down to southern states from the forrest dense North.
