NXT (2012–2015)[]
In June 2012, Kaestner-Varnado participated in a World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) tryout camp and on August 18, it was announced that she had been signed to a contract. She was sent to NXT, WWE's developmental territory, where she adopted the ring name Sasha Banks. She made her television debut on WWE NXT on December 12, 2012, losing to Paige. Banks' first televised win on NXT was on the January 23, 2013 episode over defeating Alicia Fox.
Banks then entered a storyline where she would receive letters from a secret admirer, who was eventually revealed to be the villainous Audrey Marie, who returned and attacked Banks on the February 20 episode of NXT due to Marie's jealousy of Banks' success; Marie went on to defeat Banks in a match later that episode. On the March 7 episode of NXT, Banks teamed up with The Funkadactyls (Cameron and Naomi) to defeat Marie, Alicia Fox and Aksana in six-diva tag-team match. Banks' feud with Marie ended on the April 3 episode of NXT, when Banks teamed with Paige to defeat Marie and Summer Rae. On the June 19 episode of NXT, Banks competed in the NXT Women's Championship Tournament to determine the inaugural champion but lost to Summer Rae in the first round.
After weeks of influence by Summer Rae to make herself relevant, on the September 11 episode of NXT, Banks was defeated by NXT Women's Champion Paige. After the match, Paige would attempt to console Banks leading to Banks attacking Paige and turning heel in the process. She wrestled her first match as a villain on the September 25 episode of NXT, defeating Bayley with Rae in Banks' corner. After the match, Banks would cut a promo with Rae and debut a new gimmick — "The Boss of NXT". Banks and Rae, now known as the “BFFs (Beautiful, Fierce Females)”, faced Paige and Emma on the October 16 episode of NXT, where the BFFs emerged victorious when Rae pinned Paige. On the October 23 episode of NXT, Banks defeated Emma after capitalizing on a distraction provided by Rae. On the November 13 episode of NXT, The BFFs defeated Bayley and Charlotte in a tag team match when Charlotte attacked Bayley allowing Banks to pin Bayley. After the match, Charlotte officially turned heel and aligned herself with Banks and Rae. On the December 11 episode of NXT, Banks and Rae defeated Bayley and Natalya in a tag team match. In mid-January 2014, as Rae had moved up to the main roster, the BFF's started a rivalry with Bayley, who had aligned herself with Natalya, and lost in both singles and tag team matches.
On April 6, Banks, along with Alexa Bliss and Charlotte, made an appearance at WrestleMania XXX as a part of Triple H's entrance for his match against Daniel Bryan. In May, Banks entered a tournament for the vacant NXT Women's Championship, defeating Bayley in the first round but losing to Natalya in the semi-finals. After a four-month absence from the show, Summer Rae returned on the June 6 episode of NXT, distracting Bayley and allowing Charlotte to get the victory. After the match, The BFFs would attempt to attack Bayley, only to be chased away by Emma and Paige. This led to a six-Divas tag team match on the June 12 episode of NXT, which The BFFs lost after Bayley pinned Charlotte. On the July 3 episode of NXT, Charlotte would get retribution over Bayley in a tag team match, where she and Banks defeated Bayley and Becky Lynch. After the match, Charlotte left Banks to get attacked by Bayley, with Banks officially disbanding the team in a backstage segment.
On the August 14 episode of NXT, Banks lost to Bayley in a match to determine the number one contender to the NXT Women's Championship. At NXT Takeover: Fatal 4-Way, Banks attacked Bayley after her title match with Charlotte, before Charlotte pulled Banks away and the two shared a staredown. After defeating Alexa Bliss on November 13, Banks challenged Charlotte to a match at NXT Takeover: R Evolution for the NXT Women's Championship, but she was defeated. Banks was defeated by Charlotte in a title rematch on the December 25 edition of NXT.
Banks received another title opportunity on the January 21, 2015 edition of NXT, but lost via DQ after Becky Lynch entered and attacked Charlotte. At NXT Takeover: Rival on February 11, Banks defeated Charlotte, Lynch, and Bayley in a Fatal Four Way match to capture the NXT Women's Championship. Banks would continue to hold the title, up until NXT Takeover: Brooklyn where she lost to Bayley in a critically acclaimed match. Banks would unsuccessfully challenge Bayley for the title at Takeover: Respect in a 30-minute Iron Man Match.
Women's Revolution (2015–2016)[]
Banks made her official debut on the July 13, 2015 episode of Raw along with Charlotte and Becky Lynch, after Stephanie McMahon called for a "revolution" in the WWE Divas division and while Lynch and Charlotte allied with Paige, who was feuding with Team Bella (Alicia Fox & The Bella Twins (Brie Bella and Nikki Bella)), Banks would ally with Naomi and Tamina, who later dubbed themselves as Team B.A.D. (Beautiful and Dangerous), leading to a brawl between the three teams. In her WWE pay-per-view debut on July 19 at Battleground, Banks competed in a triple threat match against Charlotte and Brie Bella, which Charlotte won. Banks went on to defeat Paige twice, first by submission on the July 20 episode of Raw, in a tag team match where Banks teamed with Naomi for the first time, and again on the July 27 episode of Raw in a singles match. After defeating the Divas Champion Nikki Bella by submission in a non-title match on the August 17 episode of Raw, Banks participated in the first ever Divas number one contender's Beat the Clock challenge match, in which she fought Paige to a time limit draw and Charlotte was named the number one contender. Following this, Banks rekindled her rivalry with Paige and defeated her twice on the September 7 and 14 episodes of Raw, and fought to a no contest on the September 10 episode of SmackDown. Although she lost in a fatal four-way number one contender's match for Charlotte's Divas Championship in November, Banks was not pinned and she started a winning streak, defeating the likes of Brie Bella Alicia Fox, and Becky Lynch.
After a month off television, Banks returned at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view on January 24, 2016, attacking Charlotte and Becky Lynch after their championship match, showing her intentions to gain the Divas Championship. Prior to a match with Lynch on the February 1 episode of Raw, Banks claimed that she was "on her own", signaling that she had moved on from Team B.A.D., only to be attacked by Naomi and Tamina during the match, turning Banks into a fan favorite in the process. The feud between Banks and Naomi and Tamina would continue throughout February, and would lead to a tag team match at Fastlane on February 21, where Banks allied with Lynch to defeat the two. Banks and Lynch went on to compete in two matches to determine the number one contender for Charlotte's Divas Championship at WrestleMania 32, with the first bout ending in a draw after a double pin occurred, and the second in a no contest after both Banks and Lynch were attacked by Charlotte. As a result, a triple threat match between Banks, Lynch and Charlotte for the Divas Championship was announced for WrestleMania. At the event on April 3, after it was announced during transmission that the Divas Championship would be withdrawn and it would be replaced with the new WWE Women's Championship, with all three women competing for it in the triple threat match, in which Banks was unsuccessful in capturing the new title at her WrestleMania in-ring debut.
After a hiatus, Banks returned to WWE television in early June, defeating Summer Rae on Main Event, before reigniting her feud with Charlotte over the WWE Women's Championship after an attack along with Paige on the June 20 episode of Raw. This led to a tag team match the following week on the June 27 episode of Raw, where Banks and Paige scored the victory. Followed by multiple attacks and matches between Banks and Dana Brooke, it was announced that they would face off in a tag team match on July 24 at Battleground, where Banks and her mystery partner Bayley defeated Charlotte and Brooke.
Raw Women's Champion (2016–2018)[]
After being drafted to Raw brand as part of the 2016 WWE draft which took place on July 19, Banks made her first appearance for the brand on July 25, where she defeated Charlotte to win the WWE Women's Championship for the first time. On August 21 at SummerSlam, Banks dropped the championship back to Charlotte, ending her reign at 27 days; the title was then renamed to Raw Women's Championship following the creation of the SmackDown Women's Championship. On September 25, Charlotte successfully retained the championship against Banks and Bayley in a triple threat match at Clash of Champions. Banks was granted a one-on-one rematch on the October 3 episode of Raw, where she would defeat Charlotte in the main event to capture her second Raw Women's Championship. Banks challenged Charlotte to compete for the championship in the first ever women's Hell in a Cell match at the titular Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event on October 30, which was then announced as the main event, making it the first time any women had received the last match of a pay-per-view card in WWE. Banks came out on the losing end, thus ending her reign at 27 days for the second time. On November 20, Banks was part of Raw's women's team for Survivor Series, during which she was eliminated by Natalya, but Banks' team proceeded to win the match. On the November 28 episode of Raw, after invoking her rematch clause a week prior, Banks defeated Charlotte in a Falls Count Anywhere match to win the Raw Women's Championship for the record-tying third time. A 30-minute Iron Woman match between the two was scheduled for Roadblock: End of the Line on December 18, which resulted in a 2–2 draw, but Banks lost to Flair 3–2 in sudden death overtime, thus ending their long-time feud since it was stipulated that Banks could not invoke her rematch clause. The next night on Raw, Banks called Flair out to congratulate her on her victory, but instead out came Nia Jax, who went on to assault her. This led to a match between the two at the Royal Rumble pre-show on January 29, 2017, where Banks was defeated. Banks again lost to Jax the following night on Raw. On the February 13 episode of Raw, Banks helped Bayley defeat Charlotte Flair and win the Raw Women's Championship in the main event. After defeating Jax at Fastlane on March 5 to end their feud, Banks once again helped Bayley to defeat Flair and retain the championship. On April 2, Banks was unsuccessful in recapturing the Raw Women's Championship at WrestleMania 33 after she was eliminated from a fatal four-way elimination match, which also included Bayley, Flair, and Jax.
On the June 26 episode of Raw, Banks scored a victory over Bayley, Jax, Dana Brooke, Mickie James, and Emma in a gauntlet match to become the number one contender for Alexa Bliss's Raw Women's Championship. On July 9 at Great Balls of Fire, Banks defeated Bliss via count out, which allowed Bliss to retain the title. In a rematch between the two, on August 20, at SummerSlam, Banks defeated Bliss to become a record tying four–time Raw Women's Champion. Eight days later, Banks dropped the title back to Bliss on Raw. In September, at No Mercy, Banks received her rematch for the title, as she took part of a fatal five-way match that was won by Bliss.
In November, at Survivor Series, Banks took part of the traditional five–on–five elimination tag team match, representing Team Raw which was victorious over Team Smackdown. The following weeks, Banks, alongside Bayley and Mickie James, started a feud with Absolution (Paige, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville), that led to various singles and tag team matches, mostly won by Absolution. Also, in December, Banks competed in the first ever women's match contested in the Middle East against Alexa Bliss.
On January 28, 2018, at the Royal Rumble, Banks competed in the first ever women's royal rumble match, being the first entry. She eliminated Vickie Guerrero, Bayley and Trish Stratus and lasted 54:46, before being eliminated by The Bella Twins. On the following episode of RAW, Banks challenged the undefeated Asuka in a losing effort. The following week tensions between Banks and best friend Bayley flared, as they showed competitive edge with them both expressing their desire to end Asuka's streak. On the February 12th edition of RAW, Banks competed against her friend Bayley in a losing effort. In February, it was announced that Banks will participate in the first ever women's Elimination Chamber match, which was contested on February 25, at the Elimination Chamber pay–per–view. At the PPV, Banks was eliminated by Alexa Bliss in the final round of the match. During the bout, Banks seemingly turned on best friend Bayley when she kicked her off one of the pods during the bout. The following night on RAW, Banks teamed with Bayley & Asuka in a winning effort in the six-women tag team bout, however Bayley refused to tag Banks toward the end of the match.
On the March 12th episode of RAW, Banks defeated Sonya Deville in singles action. Bayley took off after the match, allowing Banks to fall victim to a beatdown by Absolution. With their relationship in jeopardy, Banks confronted Bayley on the following RAW to which she offered reasoning for her betrayals. The two were interrupted by Absolution, to which Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville then later defeated Banks & Bayley after a miscommunication occurred between the two. Tensions boiled over on the March 26th edition of RAW, where Banks & Bayley got into a heated argument leading to a brawl in the backstage area. During the discussion, Banks confirmed her entrant into the WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal at WrestleMania 34. At, WrestleMania 34 Banks was eliminated from the battle royal after Bayley tossed her out. On the post-WrestleMania episode of RAW, Banks was pinned by Mandy Rose after Bayley accidentally nailed Banks with a forearm costing her the match. Subsequently, Banks & Bayley squared off the week later. However, their bout was interrupted by the Riott Squad. Banks would continue to feud with the Riott Squad in the following months.
During the May 28th edition of RAW, Banks won a Gauntlet match by lasting eliminating Ruby Riott to then qualify for the women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match. At the Money in the Bank 2018, Banks was unsuccessful in securing the briefcase. On the following episode of RAW, Bayley consoled Banks after the loss to which they seemingly put their issues to rest. Later on in the show, Banks & Bayley would lose to the Riott Squad after Morgan pinned Banks. Banks upset with the loss shoved Bayley, this later sparked a backstage brawl between the two, ending with Banks driving away. On June 25, Kurt Angle would give Banks & Bayley one last chance to get along, but after losing to the Riott Squad Banks was brutally attacked by Bayley. Banks & Bayley would then later be forced by Kurt Angle, to go to counseling with Dr. Shelby. Following the counseling, Banks & Bayley teamed together against Dana Brooke & Alicia Fox where they lost via DQ after Banks saved Bayley from a beatdown. Banks would later profess her love of Bayley backstage and how she valued their friendship.
Boss 'n' Hug Connection (2018-2019)[]
After working out their issues, Banks & Bayley defeated two local competitors on the July 23rd edition of RAW. The following week, Banks & Bayley made their debut as an official team, dubbed the Boss 'n' Hug Connection where they defeated the Riott Squad. Banks & Bayley would continue to feud with the Riott Squad leading into the fall. Due to an undisclosed injury, Banks was out of action for a short stretch but made her return on the October 15th episode of RAW where her and Bayley accompanied Natalya for her bout. They aligned themselves with veteran Natalya where they defeated the Riott Squad at the first ever all-women's PPV Evolution.
On the December 24th edition of RAW, Vince McMahon announced the creation of the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship in 2019. On the January 7th edition of RAW, Alexa Bliss hosted the first edition of her Moment of Bliss talk-show. Ronda Rousey revealed on the show, she would like to face Sasha Banks at the Royal Rumble 2019 PPV. On the show, Banks later defeated Nia Jax to earn the opportunity to face Ronda Rousey for the WWE Raw Women's Championship at the Royal Rumble 2019. At the Royal Rumble 2019, Banks was unsuccessful in capturing the WWE Raw Women's Championship.
Following the announcement of the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship on the December 24th episode of RAW, Banks and partner Bayley qualified for the Elimination Chamber Match on the February 4th edition of RAW. At the Elimination Chamber 2019, Banks & Bayley won the Elimination Chamber Match to become the inaugural WWE Women's Tag Team Champions. Following their victory, Banks & Bayley proclaimed they were ready to defend their WWE Women's Tag Team Championship titles across all brands. Banks & Bayley made their return to NXT brand on the February 27th edition of the show, where they put the locker room on notice. Banks & Bayley successfully defended the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships against Nia Jax & Tamina at the Fastlane 2019 PPV. On the March 19th episode of SmackDown, Banks & Bayley appeared after being called out by The IIconics. This marked Banks' first match on the brand since June 2016. On the show, they suffered a non-title loss to the The IIconics after Peyton Royce pinned Banks.
After Banks & Bayley stated they would take on all challengers at WrestleMania in a backstage interview, it was later announced on WWE's website and social media pages would be defending their WWE Women's Tag Team Championships in a Fatal 4-Way tag team match at WrestleMania 35. They would be facing Nia Jax & Tamina, The IIconics and Natalya & Beth Phoenix. At WrestleMania 35, Banks & Bayley were unsuccessful in defending their titles when Billie Kay pinned Bayley, resulting in The IIconics becoming the new WWE Women's Tag Team Champions.
After WrestleMania 35, Kaestner-Varnado took a four-month hiatus from WWE. As detailed in WWE Chronicle: Sasha Banks, Kaestner-Varnado explained that she was mentally burned-out. She had become so consumed by work that she felt she always had to be Sasha Banks and she missed just being Mercedes. The time-off served her well and she returned with a fresh mind-set.
The Blueprint (2019-2020)[]
Banks made her return on the August 12 episode of RAW. Natalya, who had wrestled Becky Lynch at SummerSlam 2019 the night before, was in the ring with her arm in a sling (a kayfabe injury as result of Lynch's Dis-Arm-Her submission hold). Natalya was paying tribute to her late father Jim Neidhart and it appeared as though Banks was out there to do the same. However, Banks would turn heel and attack Natalya. RAW Women's Champion Lynch would attempt to assist Natalya but Banks ended the segment on top. During the attack, Banks would remove a purple wig from her own head, revealing a new blue hair color. From this point forward Banks would refer to herself as "The Blueprint". The following week, on the August 19 episode of RAW, Banks was interviewed by Michael Cole but rather than addressing her attack on Natalya, Banks spoke of how the world was buzzing about her new hairstyle. Later that night, Banks would attack Natalya in the backstage area and told Natalya: "Go to hell Nattie, and tell your daddy I said hi". On the August 26 edition of RAW, Banks delivered a worked-shoot in which she acknowledged the internet rumors that suggested she threw a tantrum after losing at WrestleMania 35. Banks claimed the real reason she was upset was because she lowered herself to competing for the Tag Team Championship which meant "less than nothing" to her while Becky Lynch was in the main event. Later in the night, Banks defeated Natalya by submission. On the September 2 episode of RAW, Banks would run-interference during the main event which saw Lynch team-up with SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley against the Women's Tag Team Champions Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross. Banks attacked Lynch with a steel chair until Banks' long-time ally Bayley took the chair from Banks. Bayley would then turn heel, using the chair herself to assault Lynch. On the September 9 edition of RAW from Madison Square Garden, Banks & Bayley would lose to Lynch & Charlotte Flair in a tag team match. On September 15, at Clash of Champions 2019, Banks would challenge Lynch for the RAW Women's Championship. During the match, Banks introduced a steel chair but Lynch would end up being the one to get disqualified. As a title can't change hands on disqualification, Lynch retained. Neither woman was satisfied with the result and they continued to brawl all over the arena. When their fight returned to the ring, Lynch applied a modified Dis-Arm-Her on Banks with Sasha's arm trapped through the chair. The next night on the September 16 edition of RAW, Banks & Bayley defeated Tag Team Champions Bliss & Cross in a non-title match. Bliss was taken to the back mid-match after suffering a kayfabe injury. This left Cross vulnerable to a post-match beatdown until Lynch attempted to make the save. Becky also succumbed to the numbers of Banks & Bayley until Charlotte chased them away. Later that night, Banks issued a challenge to Lynch for another title match at the Hell in a Cell Pay-Per-View. Lynch accepted but raised the stakes: she wanted a Hell in a Cell match. On the September 24 episode of SmackDown, Banks & Bayley won a tag team match over Carmella & Charlotte with Banks submitting Carmella. The night closed with a backstage brawl between Banks & Lynch that Banks got the better of. On the October 4 episode of SmackDown, Bayley & Banks lost another tag team match to Flair & Lynch. Two days later at Hell in Cell 2019 on October 6, Banks unsuccessfully challenged Becky Lynch for the RAW Women’s Championship inside of Hell in a Cell.
On the October 11 episode of SmackDown, as part of the 2019 WWE Draft, Banks was drafted to the SmackDown brand. On the October 18 edition of SmackDown, Banks accompanied Bayley (who underwent a character transformation the week before) as a guest on The Miz’s talk show Miz TV to explain Bayley’s new demeanor. On the November 8 episode of SmackDown, Banks returned to in-ring competition with a singles victory over Nikki Cross. From this night forward, Banks began to use a remix of her entrance theme performed by real-life cousin Snoop Dogg. It was also announced that Banks would be a member of Team SmackDown for Survivor Series. On the November 22 episode of SmackDown, Banks, as team captain, challenged Team RAW and Team NXT to show-up. Both teams did and an impromptu Triple Threat match between team captains was booked. NXT Captain Rhea Ripley won by pinning RAW Captain Charlotte Flair who had Banks trapped in the Figure-8 at the time. On November 24 at Survivor Series 2019, Banks led the team of herself, Cross, Carmella, Dana Brooke & Lacey Evans in a Triple Threat Elimination Tag Team match. Team NXT would win the match, however, Banks had a standout performance, eliminating 4 opponents and being the very last woman eliminated by Ripley.
On the November 29 episode of SmackDown, Banks and Bayley blamed the other women of SmackDown for their respective defeats at Survivor Series. Lacey Evans took exception to this and attacked Banks, turning Evans face in the process. On the December 20 edition of SmackDown, Banks incensed Evans by getting in the face of Evans’ daughter, Summer, who was seated at ringside. On the January 10 2020 episode of SmackDown, a match was scheduled to take place between Banks & Evans, however, Bayley revealed Banks was absent and was in Los Angeles working on a rap album. On the January 17 episode of SmackDown, an angle was written in which Evans had attacked Banks backstage, leaving Bayley to face Evans at the Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View alone. Banks would disappear from TV for the next 5 weeks, the on-screen reason being a combination of an injury caused by Evans and continued recording of her rap album. In reality, Kaestner-Varnado was filming for the Star Wars series The Mandalorian.
Banks returned to TV on the February 28 edition of SmackDown, she teamed with Bayley in a losing effort to Naomi & Lacey Evans. The following week on the March 6 episode of SmackDown, a tag team rematch was held with Banks pinning Naomi. On the March 20 edition of SmackDown, former General Manager Paige appeared via satellite. Paige revealed the FOX Network granted her permission to book the SmackDown Women’s Championship match for WrestleMania 36. Paige informed Bayley she would be defending against 5 different women, including Banks, in an Elimination 6-Pack Challenge. Bayley was upset but Banks looked quietly pleased. The match would later become a 5-Pack Challenge after Dana Brooke was pulled due to complications with COVID-19. On April 5, on Night 2 of WrestleMania 36, Bayley successfully defended her SmackDown Women's Championship against Banks, Evans, Naomi & Tamina. During the match, Bayley had the chance to prevent Banks from being eliminated by Evans but chose not to save her friend. Nonetheless, Banks stuck around and ultimately helped Bayley eliminate Evans.
On the April 10 episode of SmackDown, Tamina demanded a title shot from Bayley. Bayley accepted on the condition Tamina first defeat Banks. Banks did not appear pleased that Bayley volunteered her for a match, something Bayley would continue to do in the coming months. The following week on the April 17 episode of SmackDown, Tamina defeated Banks. On the April 24 edition of SmackDown, Banks faced Lacey Evans in a Money in the Bank qualifying match. In a call-back to their feud earlier in the year, Banks taunted Evans with a picture of her daughter Summer's face stuck to a stick which itself was a nod to a gimmick used by Banks in the NXT stable the BFFs. During the match, Bayley attempted to assist Banks by distracting the referee but this backfired allowing Evans to deliver A Women’s Right while holding the stick, knocking Banks out and earning Evans a three-count. Tamina would receive her match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Money in the Bank on May 10, a match which Bayley won with Banks still in her corner.
Due to the rule that allows the Women’s Tag Team Champions to compete across all three brands, Banks & Bayley would begin to appear on RAW weekly. At Backlash 2020 which took place on June 14, Banks & Bayley retained the Tag Team Championship in a Triple Threat match against Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross and The IIconics. The next night on the June 15 episode of RAW, Banks & Bayley had an in-ring promo celebrating Bayley’s birthday. The IIconics interrupted feeling disrespected Banks & Bayley ignored a challenge The IIconics had made earlier in the night. An exchange of words led to Peyton Royce slapping Banks. An irate Bayley once again accepted a match on Sasha’s behalf: a title defense against The IIconics for next week’s RAW. Before then, Banks & Bayley had a success title defense on the June 17 edition of NXT against the team of Shotzi Blackheart & Tegan Nox. Post-match, Banks & Bayley were chased away by NXT Women's Champion Io Shirai. On the June 22 episode of RAW, Banks & Bayley successfully retained the Tag Team Championship over The IIconics. Post-match, Banks cut a promo in which she admitted jealously towards Bayley. She expressed a desire to hold two titles herself and verbally challenged Asuka for the RAW Women’s Championship. The following week on the June 29 episode of RAW, Banks & Asuka partook in a dual contract signing which also involved WWE Champion Drew McIntyre & McIntyre’s challenger Dolph Ziggler. A mixed tag team match was booked for the main event of the evening. Banks teamed with Ziggler and Asuka was paired with McIntyre. Banks won by pinning Asuka. On July 1, Banks wrestled Io Shirai in the main event of night 1 of NXT’s Great American Bash, Asuka would make a surprise appearance during the match, spitting green-mist in the face of Banks, allowing Shirai to win the match. On the July 3 episode of SmackDown, Banks & Bayley hosted a tribute video to themselves. Bliss & Cross would interrupt and in a case of role reversal, Banks volunteered Bayley (who wasn’t dressed to compete) to wrestle Alexa Bliss, a match that ended in disqualification after interference from Cross. On the July 6 episode of RAW, Banks wrestled Asuka's returning tag team partner, Kairi Sane but the match ended in disqualification after Bayley's interference. The Kabuki Warriors had a tag team title shot that was the main event of the July 13 episode of RAW. It was another successful defense for Banks & Bayley. On July 19, at Extreme Rules 2020, Bayley successfully retained the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Nikki Cross by using Banks' hand ring to strike Cross in the ribs without the referee’s knowledge. Later that night, Banks challenged Asuka for the RAW Women's Championship. Late in the match, Asuka attempted to spit green-mist in the eyes of Banks but Banks ducked and the referee was inadvertently blinded instead. Bayley would strike Asuka with the tag team championship belt, pull the shirt off the referee's back, put it on herself, and make the three-count. Banks & Bayley quickly left the arena in possession of the RAW Women’s Championship belt.
On the July 20 episode of RAW, Banks & Bayley proclaimed that Banks' dubious win the previous night was official. Stephanie McMahon would appear via satellite and inform them that Banks is not the RAW Women's Champion. However, she booked Banks & Asuka in a title match for the next week with a stipulation that the title could change hands on a disqualification or count-out. On the July 27 episode of RAW, Bayley initially accompanied Banks to the ring for the title match but Asuka's tag team partner Kairi Sane chased Bayley to the back. It appeared as though Asuka was about to defeat Banks when backstage footage appeared on the tron of Bayley beating down Sane. Noticing this, Asuka chose to abandon the match and run to the back to help her friend. As a result, Asuka was counted-out and due to the unique stipulations of the match, Banks won her record-setting fifth RAW Women's Championship meaning Banks & Bayley now held all 3 women's titles on the main roster. The beatdown of Sane was a way of writing Sane off TV as, off-camera, she wished to return home to Japan to spend more time with her family. In character, Asuka swore revenge on Banks & Bayley for ending Kairi’s career. On the August 10 episode of RAW, Bayley lost to Asuka in a singles match which was suggested by Banks. As a result, Asuka earned the right to face Banks for the RAW Women's Championship at SummerSlam. Later that week on the August 14 episode of SmackDown, Asuka won a Tri-Branded #1 Contender's Battle Royal to challenge for Bayley’s SmackDown Women's title also at SummerSlam. Asuka now had all the momentum and tensions appeared to be rising between the Tag Team Champions. On the August 21 episode of SmackDown, long-time sceptic of the Bayley/Sasha friendship, Corey Graves, conducted an in-ring interview in which he tried to stir up trouble between the two. The segment led to Banks & Bayley facing Naomi in consecutive Beat the Clock Challenge matches. Whoever won in a shorter time would face Asuka second at SummerSlam. Banks won but Bayley was defeated by Naomi. At SummerSlam 2020 on August 23, as per the agreement, Bayley wrestled Asuka first and successfully retained the SmackDown Women's Championship due to a distraction caused by Banks when Sasha took a Hip Attack from Asuka from the apron. Later that night, Asuka defeated Banks to reclaim the RAW Women's title. The story was that Bayley side-stepped the Hip Attack and didn't "take the bullet" for Banks as Banks did for her.
The night after SummerSlam on the August 24 episode of RAW, Banks would unsuccessfully challenge Asuka in a Lumberjack match. Bayley attempted to help Banks but was neutralized by Shayna Baszler. On August 30 at the Payback 2020 Pay-Per-View, Baszler teamed with Nia Jax to defeat Banks & Bayley for the Women's Tag Team Championship. The finish of the match saw Baszler force Sasha's forearm across Bayley's throat causing Bayley to submit. A rematch would take place 5 days later on the September 4 edition of SmackDown with Bayley & Banks losing once again. During the match, Banks injured her knee in kayfabe. As Bayley appeared to be helping her to the back, she suddenly turned-on Banks by kicking her in the head as Banks sat helplessly on the apron. Bayley would utilize a steel chair in her vicious assault, locking Banks' neck in the chair like a vice before stomping on the chair from the second rope. With this, Banks became a face once again. On the September 11 episode of SmackDown, Bayley explained her actions. She stated that she knew Banks was waiting to stab her in the back so she beat Banks to the punch and turned on her first. On the September 18 episode of SmackDown, Banks appeared via satellite from the Performance Center to be interviewed by Michael Cole. Banks, who was in a neck-collar, expressed the emotional pain of Bayley's betrayal until Bayley attacked her from behind with same steel chair she had used two weeks earlier. Bayley attempted to break Banks' neck until officials intervened. On September 27 at Clash of Champions 2020, Bayley defended the SmackDown Women's Championship against Asuka. Bayley would get intentionally disqualified, thus retaining her title. Banks would make her return post-match and assault Bayley with a steel chair of her own. On the October 2 episode of SmackDown, Banks had a stern warning for Bayley and revealed they'll be having a title match next week. On the October 9 episode of SmackDown, Banks faced Bayley for the SmackDown Women's Championship but Bayley again got herself disqualified. Later that night, tired of Bayley's cowardly tactics, Banks laid down the challenge for a Hell in a Cell match. The next week on the October 16 episode of SmackDown, a contract signing was held. Bayley, however, refused to sign the contract and walked-out on Banks. Banks promised Bayley would sign the contract "one way or another". Two days before the Hell in a Cell Pay-Per-View, on the October 23 episode of SmackDown, Bayley's in-ring promo was interrupted by Banks who brought the contract down to the ring. Bayley continued to refuse to sign the document and a scuffle ensued. Banks would get on top and apply a modified Bank Statement with Bayley trapped within the steel chair. With no other option, Bayley (still locked in the hold) frantically signed the contract. On October 25, at Hell in a Cell 2020, the former best friends wrestled inside Hell in a Cell, Sasha's third time inside the structure. Banks would win the match, again using the Bank Statement with the assistance of the steel chair to force Bayley to submit to capture her first SmackDown Women's Championship and end Bayley's record-setting reign at 380 days. 12 days later on the November 6 episode of SmackDown, Banks would defend her title in a rematch against Bayley. Bayley was confident heading in as Banks had never successfully defended a singles title on the main roster. However, it was Banks who emerged victorious, submitting Bayley with the Bank Statement to end their feud. Banks posed triumphantly on stage before turning to head to the back only to be hit with a Superkick from the returning Carmella.
SmackDown Women's Champion (2020-2021)[]
Carmella would continue to attack Banks from behind for the next couple of weeks. As SmackDown Women's Champion, Banks would face RAW Women's Champion Asuka at Survivor Series 2020 on November 22. Banks would win the match by pinfall. On the November 27 episode of SmackDown, Carmella cut a backstage promo claiming that she called all the shots. She snapped her fingers, expecting a glass of champagne, the hand that delivered it to her was Sasha's and Banks threw the champagne in Carmella's face. The two brawled until they were separated by officials. The next week, on the December 4 episode of SmackDown, Banks and Carmella were seated in different rooms for a "War of Words". Carmella claimed that Banks worked hard for everything she has where as things come easily to Carmella herself and Carmella can achieve more success than Banks with half the effort. On the December 11 episode of SmackDown, a contract signing took place for a match at TLC. Banks entered first and became frustrated that the contract was missing. Carmella appeared on the TitanTron with the contract in hand, claiming things happen on her terms. Carmella sent her sommelier "Tommy" (later renamed Reginald) to deliver the contract to Banks. Banks stamped her signature on the document but didn't want to wait TLC. Banks challenged Carmella to have a title match later that night. Carmella accepted and Adam Pearce made it official. Banks sent a message to Carmella by attacking Reginald. During the SmackDown Women's title match that night, the sommelier would pull Banks out of the ring, saving Carmella from defeat. This incensed Banks which led to her disqualification, under standard pro wrestling rules, a title cannot change on a disqualification so Banks retained the championship. Carmella, however, would get the better of the post-match brawl, breaking a bottle of champagne across Banks' back. On the December 18 episode of SmackDown, Carmella hosted a champagne toast in which she continued to claim how superior she was to Banks. Banks crashed the party but Reginald saved Carmella from harm. Carmella ended the segment on top, striking Banks with another bottle of champagne. At TLC 2020, on December 20, Banks retained the SmackDown Women’s Championship over Carmella. On the December 25 episode of SmackDown, Banks teamed with Bianca Belair to unsuccessfully challenge Charlotte Flair & Asuka for the Women's Tag Team Championship in a Triple Threat Elimination Tag Team match which also involved Carmella & Bayley. On the first SmackDown of 2021, Banks again teamed with Belair to face Carmella & Bayley. Due to a distraction from Reginald, Banks was pinned by Carmella. On the January 15 episode of SmackDown, Banks interrupted Carmella's backstage interview and shoved her down. Banks informed Carmella she'd be happy to give her another title shot if Banks gets a one-on-one match with Reginald first. The following week on January 22, Banks defeated Reginald, forcing him to submit to the Bank Statement. On the January 29 SmackDown, Reginald offered Banks a bottle of wine as a gift from Carmella to commiserate her impending loss of the title. Banks began to play mind games with Reginald, flirting with him. On January 31, at the 2021 Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View, Banks defended her championship against Carmella. Reginald was ejected from ringside during the match. With a level playing field, Banks submitted Carmella with the Bank Statement for the victory.
On the February 5 edition of SmackDown, Royal Rumble match winner Bianca Belair was in the ring to potentially declare who she would be challenging at WrestleMania 37. Reginald, now enamored with Banks, interrupted Belair and claimed that she wouldn't stand a chance against Banks. Banks would later join the segment and stated, while she was impressed with Belair, Banks herself is still the best because she’s the champion. On the February 12 SmackDown, Banks continued to string Reginald along in a backstage segment. Later that night, Banks had an in-ring segment with Belair, in which the two expressed mutual admiration. Banks implored Belair to challenge for her WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania. WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax interrupted, upset with the fact that everyone is talking about Belair's Rumble win rather than them becoming 2-time tag team champions. On the February 19 SmackDown, Jax & Baszler were guests on Bayley's Ding Dong! Hello interview segment to discuss an upcoming title defense against Banks & Belair. Reginald would interrupt and again verbally praise Banks. Banks would come down to the ring herself and remind Reginald not to speak on her behalf. The segment eventually led to a Six Person Intergender Tag Team Match at the suggestion of Reginald. He paired himself with Banks & Belair to face the tag team champions and Bayley. Reginald won the match by pinning Jax. On February 21, at the Elimination Chamber Pay-Per-View, Banks & Belair were unsuccessful in their attempt to win the tag team championship. Reginald had attempted to hand Banks a champagne bottle to use as a weapon but was caught by the referee which distracted Banks long enough to be caught in a Samoan Drop and pinned by Jax. On the February 26 episode of SmackDown, Belair officially made her decision to challenge Banks for the SmackDown Women's Championship at WrestleMania. The following week, sick of his courting of Banks, Carmella fired Reginald as her sommelier. Later that night, Reginald came down to ringside and almost cost Belair a singles match against Baszler. Belair told Banks to stop toying with Reginald and cut him loose. Banks did so by slapping Reginald in the face. Even later in the night, Reginald knocked on the door of Banks' locker room in an attempt to apologize, only for Banks to slam the door in his face. Jax would then appear claiming to find Reginald "cute". Issues began to become more heated between Banks and Belair on the March 12 episode of SmackDown when both were guests on the Kevin Owens Show. Banks played on Belair's moniker of being the "EST" by claiming to be the B-E-S-T. Banks referred to herself as NBA Legend Michael Jordan and likened Belair to other basketball great LeBron James. Banks and Belair would then lose a tag team match to Natalya & Tamina with Tamina pinning Belair after she was distracted by Banks arguing with Reginald at ringside. Belair was upset with Banks, telling her she was sick of this Reginald problem but Banks chalked Belair's loss down to her being a rookie. On the March 19 edition of SmackDown, Banks successfully defended her SmackDown Women's title against Jax. Belair made it clear pre-match that she would not come down to the ring to save Banks if she got in trouble, Banks claimed she didn’t want Belair’s help. Despite this, Belair did come to ringside and helped Banks retain the championship but it didn't appear to bother Banks at all. Later that night, Banks opted not to be in Belair's corner for a match against Baszler, nor did she make the save when both Belair & Baszler were attacked by Natalya & Tamina. On March 21, at Fastlane, Banks & Belair failed to co-exist in another pursuit of the Tag Team Championship, their bickering led to Banks being rolled-up by Baszler. Post-match, Banks slapped Belair, blaming her for the loss. On the Match 26 episode of SmackDown, Banks interrupted a match between Belair & Natalya by joining commentary. This led to Belair slapping Banks, returning the favor from Fastlane. After Belair defeated Natalya, Banks hit Belair from behind with a backstabber. The following week, Banks again tried to attack Belair from behind but Belair was ready for her this time and Banks backed off, holding the championship above her head. On the April 9 SmackDown, Banks had a brief interview vowing to retain her championship at WrestleMania. On April 10th, on Night 1 of WrestleMania 37, Banks competed against Belair in the main event. Throughout the match, Banks had used Belair's braid against her. This backfired for the finish, with Belair whipping Banks with the braid before hitting the KOD and ending Banks' reign at 167 days. Banks had a short appearance on the next SmackDown, storming out of an interview without saying a word.
Banks returned on the July 30 edition of SmackDown, saving Bianca Belair from a two on one assault from Carmella & Zelina Vega. Later that night, Banks teamed with Belair to defeat Carmella & Vega. During the post-match celebration, Banks would turn heel by attacking Belair from behind and applying the Bank Statement as the show faded to black. The following Friday on August 6, Banks opened the show explaining her reasons for attacking Belair and her intent to reclaim the SmackDown Women's Championship at SummerSlam. Belair accepted the challenge. On the August 13 episode of SmackDown, Banks & Belair were involved in a contract signing. Banks brought Carmella & Vega out to be "witnesses" to said signing of the contract. Belair was ready for the obvious ambush but the numbers proved too much with Banks again looking strong to close the show. However, 24 hours later at a WWE Live Event, Banks was pulled from the show at the last moment, no reason was ever officially given for her absence. At SummerSlam 2021 on August 21, Becky Lynch would make her return from maternity leave and defeat Belair for the title in an impromptu match that lasted 26 seconds.
Banks would return at the Extreme Rules 2021 Pay-Per-View which took place on September 26. She interrupted the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship match between Becky Lynch & Bianca Belair, attacking both women, resulting in a no contest. Five days later on the 2021 Draft edition of SmackDown, Banks returned to action in the main event: a WrestleMania rematch with Belair. Lynch was on commentary and got involved in the match by grabbing the braid of Belair, allowing Banks to pick up the victory. SmackDown's newest draft pick, RAW Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair, laid out both Banks & Belair to close the show. Night 2 of the WWE Draft took place on the October 4 episode of Monday Night RAW. Banks was selected to remain on SmackDown. Banks returned the favor from 3 days ago by attacking Flair & Belair following a main event bout between the two. On the October 8 SmackDown, a contract signing was held between Banks, Belair & Lynch for a SmackDown Women's Championship Triple Threat match to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at Crown Jewel. Belair ended the segment on top by driving Lynch through Banks through a table with the KOD. As the brands weren't settled until after Crown Jewel, Banks was able to compete on either show. As such, on the October 11 episode of RAW, Banks was to team with Belair to face the pairing of Lynch & Flair. All four women failed to get along, brawling before the match even began. When some semblance of control was managed to begin the contest, the match was thrown out when all four women began brawling once again. On the October 15 SmackDown, Banks faced and defeated Lynch in a non-title match with Belair costing Lynch the match in the same manner Lynch cost Belair two weeks prior. In the culminating Triple Threat match on October 21, at Crown Jewel, it was Lynch who retained by pinning Banks with assistance of the ropes. At Survivor Series, Banks captained Team SmackDown, however, she was eliminated from the match by count out after her teammates prevented her from returning to the ring. Team Raw ultimately won the match.
Partnering with Naomi (2022)[]
During a match against SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair at a house show on January 2, 2022, Banks suffered a calcaneus injury. Banks returned on the January 28 episode of SmackDown, announcing she would be in the Women's Royal Rumble Match. At the Royal Rumble, Banks entered first, scoring two eliminations before she was eliminated by Queen Zelina. On the February 25 episode of SmackDown, Banks and Naomi revealed they would challenge for the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship. Banks and Naomi would win the championship in a Fatal Four Way Tag Team Match at WrestleMania 38. On the April 18 episode of Raw, Banks and Naomi made their first defense, retaining against Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley. They then feuded with Natalya and Shayna Baszler, leading to a title match between the two teams on the May 13 episode of SmackDown, where Banks and Naomi retained. This turned out to be their final televised WWE appearance, and their title defense against Natalya and Baszler at the May 15 house show proved to be Banks' final WWE match, as on the May 16 episode of Raw, Banks and Naomi walked out due to a creative dispute, despite having been booked in the main event for that night. On that week's SmackDown, it was announced Banks and Naomi had been suspended indefinitely by WWE and the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship was vacated.
New Japan Pro Wrestling/Stardom (2023)[]
After weeks of anticipation, Banks made her debut for New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) and World Wonder Ring Stardom at Wrestle Kingdom 17 under the new ring name Mercedes Moné. She confronted IWGP Women's Champion KAIRI, and attacked her. This set up a title match between the two at NJPW Battle In The Valley 2023, where Moné defeated KAIRI to win the title. At Stardom All Star Grand Queendom 2023, Moné lost the title to Mayu Iwatani, ending her reign at 64 days.
Other media[]
Banks made her video game debut as a playable character in WWE 2K17, then later appears in WWE 2K18, and WWE 2K19. She also makes a appearance in WWE 2K20 on October 22, with the 2K Showcase being about her, Bayley, Charlotte Flair, and Becky Lynch's career from NXT to WrestleMania.
