The Future is Now was a wrestling event promoted by Ring of Honor. It took place on June 12, 2005 in New York, New York. The shows name is due to the fact that it took place the same weekend as the Extreme Championship Wrestling reunion shows Hardcore Homecoming (promoted by Shane Douglas and Jeremy Borash, taking place on June 10 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) and ECW One Night Stand (promoted by World Wrestling Entertainment, taking place later that evening in New York, New York).
In order to help promote the event, local WB station WPIX 11 filmed a news story on ROH. Clips of the report were shown throughout the DVD release.
Results
- Colt Cabana defeated Jimmy Rave (w/The Embassy)
- The Carnage Crew (HC Loc & Tony DeVito) defeated the Ring Crew Express (Dunn & Marcos) in a New York Street Fight
- Azrieal defeated BJ Whitmer, Deranged, Fast Eddie (w/The Embassy), Izzy (w/Laceys Angels) and Jack Evans in a Six Man Mayhem match
- Azrieal pinned Izzy after a double stomp to the head.
- Derrick Dempsey vs. The Masked Boston Superstar ended in a no contest
- The match was stopped by Shane Douglas. Douglas cut a promo saying he was asked to come to the show by ROH’s booker Gabe Sapolsky, who told him ROH was the new ECW. Douglas then began burring ROH, saying as far as he was concerned it was the same as the WWE.
- Homicide (w/Julius Smokes) defeated James Gibson
- Homicide pinned Gibson after a low blow followed by a Lariat.
- After the match, Gibson attacked Homicide, but was jumped by Smokes. The Rottweilers attempted to put Gibson through a table, until Jay Lethal came to his aid.
- CM Punk defeated Roderick Strong
- Punk forced Strong to submit to the Anaconda Vice.
- After the match, the fans began to chant “Please dont go” and “Thank you” at Punk, who had signed with World Wrestling Entertainment. Punk cut a promo, saying regardless of who he worked for in a week, he will be the ROH World Champion. Punk then told the fans to chant for the future of Ring of Honor, Roderick Strong.
- Samoa Joe defeated Nigel McGuinness to retain the ROH Pure Championship
- Joe pinned McGuinness after a Muscle Buster.
- After the match, Shane Douglas came out said the fans were right, and he was impressed by Ring of Honor.
- Low Ki (w/Julius Smokes) defeated Austin Aries in an unsanctioned match
- Low Ki pinned Aries after a Ki Crusher off the top rope.
- After the match, Homicide came out and, along with Low Ki, tried to give Aries a Double Stomp / Cop Killer Combination, until Generation Next came to his aid. Jay Lethal ran in through the crowd and gave Low Ki a Dragon Suplex.
- After the show, the Ring Crew Express got into a brawl with the Carnage Crew as they were trying to take down the ring.
