Death Before Dishonor 2023 was a professional wrestling pay-per-view produced by Ring of Honor (ROH). It took place on July 21, 2023 at the CURE Insurance Arena in Trenton, New Jersey. It was the 20th event in the Death Before Dishonor chronology.

First held in 2003, Death Before Dishonor is one of Ring of Honor's biggest yearly events.

On the June 2, 2023 episode of AEW Rampage, it was announced that the 20th Death Before Dishonor event would take place on July 21 at the CURE Insurance Arena in Trenton, New Jersey.

Storylines[]

On the June 2 episode of AEW Rampage, Katsuyori Shibata defeated Lee Moriarty to retain the ROH Pure Championship. After, former champion Daniel Garcia confronted Shibata. On July 16, it was announced that Shibata would defend the Pure Championship against Garcia at Death Before Dishonor.

On the July 13 episode of ROH Wrestling, an eliminator tournament to determine a challenger for ROH World Television Champion Samoa Joe begun. Dalton Castle defeated Tony Nese to advance to the final, while Shane Taylor beat Shawn Dean to also advance. The following week, Castle defeated Taylor in the final, earning a title match with Samoa Joe at Death Before Dishonor.

On the March 9 episode of ROH Wrestling, ROH Women's World Champion Athena defeated Willow Nightingale. Athena and Nightingale met again on the July 14 episode of AEW Rampage, where Nightingale beat Athena to advance in the Women's Owen Hart Cup. On July 16, it was announced that Athena and Nightingale would meet a third time at Death Before Dishonor in a match for the ROH Women's World Championship.

After winning the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship on July 5, Eddie Kingston called on Mark Briscoe to challenge ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli, someone Kingston had animosity with. The match between Castagnoli and Briscoe was confirmed for Death Before Dishonor on the July 6 episode of ROH Wrestling. However, on July 13, Tony Khan revealed that Briscoe had been injured and would be unable to face Castagnoli. Khan further announced that a new challenger would be revealed on the July 19 episode of AEW Dynamite. That night, during the Blood and Guts Match, Castagnoli and PAC competed on the same team, constantly bickering throughout the contest, leading to PAC walking out. Backstage, PAC challenged Castagnoli to a match at Death Before Dishonor, which was made official.
