Pleasantville is a city in Atlantic County, New Jersey, United States. Pleasantville was originally incorporated as a borough in January 1889, from portions of Egg Harbor Township. Later in 1914 it became a full township. During the waning days of WWII it was the home of the Boston Red Sox spring training as travel down to Florida was not cost prohibitive. The biggest claim to fame for the town is the boxing gym, Byrd's Gym. Boxers such as Ezzard Charles, Jersey Joe Walcott,Ernie Terrell and most notable Sonny Liston trained there.
