NXT Vengeance Day 2023 was a professional wrestling event produced by American promotion WWE for their NXT brand. The event took place on February 4, 2023, at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was the eleventh Vengeance event and the third Vengeance Day event under NXT. The event was broadcast on Peacock in the United States and on the WWE Network internationally.

Production

Background

The Vengeance event first took place in 2001 and was held annually until 2007. The event would be shortly revived as a one-off in 2011. In 2021, WWE's development brand NXT revived the event as NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day, the addition of "day" being due to the event taking place on or around Valentine's Day.

On December 8, 2022, NXT announced that the third Vengeance Day under NXT would take place on February 4, 2023, at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, marking the first NXT livestreaming event held outside Florida since NXT TakeOver: Portland in 2020.

Storylines

After failing to win the NXT Championship at Deadline on December 10, 2022, Apollo Crews would turn his attention to Carmelo Hayes. The pair would trade wins before it was announced on January 24 that the two men would face off in a Two Out Of Three Falls Match at Vengeance Day.

At Deadline on December 10, 2022, Pretty Deadly (Elton Prince and Kit Wilson) lost the NXT Tag Team Championship to The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods). Attempting to earn a rematch, Pretty Deadly took part in a Gauntlet Match at New Year's Evil on January 10, 2023, however, the match would be won by Gallus (Mark Coffey and Wolfgang). The following week, The New Day announced they would defend their championship against Gallus. Pretty Deadly, still wanting a rematch, would interrupt before a brawl broke out between the three teams. It was then announced that The New Day would defend the NXT Tag Team Championship against Gallus and Pretty Deadly in a Triple Threat Tag Team Match at Vengeance Day. On the January 24 episode of NXT, The New Day announced that a Triple Threat Tag Team Match involving Chase U (Andre Chase and Duke Hudson), The Dyad (Jagger Reid and Rip Fowler), and Edris Enofe and Malik Blade would take place the following week, with the winners being added to the Triple Threat Tag Team Match at Vengeance Day. Chase U would emerge victorious in the bout, earning their spot in the Fatal Four Way Tag Team Match at Vengeance Day.

On the January 24, 2023 episode of NXT, Kiana James and Fallon Henley teamed up to defeat Ivy Nile and Tatum Paxley. Excited the pair were getting along, Brooks Jensen proposed to Shawn Michaels that they challenge for the NXT Women's Tag Team Championship at Vengeance Day. However, Henley was reluctant before walking out. Later that night, NXT Women's Tag Team Champions Katana Chance and Kayden Carter retained their titles against Alba Fyre and Sol Ruca. After the match, James and Henley would appear, challenging the champions. It was later made official that James and Henley would challenge Chance and Carter at Vengeance Day.

On the November 22, 2022 episode of NXT, Wes Lee defeated Carmelo Hayes to retain the North American Championship. After the bout, Lee would be attacked by a returning Dijak. At New Year's Evil on January 10, Dijak defeated Tony D'Angelo, earning a match for Lee's title. It was later made official that Lee would defend the North American Championship against Dijak at Vengeance Day.

At New Year's Evil on January 10, 2023, a twenty woman battle royal took place to determine the next challenger for NXT Women's Champion Roxanne Perez. However, both Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne of Toxic Attraction hit the outside floor at the same time, co-winning the battle royal. As a result, it was announced that Perez would defend her title against Dolin and Jayne in a Triple Threat Match at Vengeance Day.

On December 10, 2022, at Deadline, Grayson Waller won the inaugural Men's Iron Survivor Challenge to earn an NXT Championship opportunity. At New Year's Evil on January 10, 2023, Waller challenged NXT Champion Bron Breakker. However, Waller was counted out after the ropes snapped and Waller tumbled to the outside. Later that night, Shawn Michaels announced that Breakker and Waller would face off in a Steel Cage rematch at Vengeance Day.
