On March 9, 2023, NJPW announced that the second Resurgence event would take place on May 21 at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California.
Storylines[]
On May 1, NJPW revealed that Jon Moxley would compete at Resurgence, marking Moxley's first appearance with the company since October 2022. It was later announced that at the event, Moxley would team with his Blackpool Combat Club stablemate Wheeler Yuta and Shota Umino to take on Kazuchika Okada, Rocky Romero, and Tomohiro Ishii.
At Capital Collision on April 15, Fred Rosser was scheduled to face Juice Robinson. However, Robinson would jump Rosser before the match, beating down Rosser with a chair that was reserved for Robinson's wife, Toni Storm. As a result, Robinson was suspended. Later, it was revealed that Rosser would compete against Robinson in a Street Fight at Resurgence.
On April 27, NJPW announced the STRONG Women's Championship, with a four woman tournament to crown the inaugural champion scheduled for Resurgence. It was revealed that the tournament would feature Mercedes Mone from NJPW, Momo Kohgo from Stardom, Stephanie Vaquer from CMLL, and Willow Nightingale from AEW.
