New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) held the first Royal Quest event on August 31, 2019. On August 16, 2022, NJPW announced that it would be returning to London, England for Royal Quest II, which would take place across two nights, October 1 and 2.
Storylines[]
On November 21, 2021, Shota Umino failed to dethrone RevPro Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay. On September 26, 2022, NJPW announced that Ospreay, now IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion, and Umino would face off at Night 1 of Royal Quest II in a non-title match.
At AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door, FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) won the IWGP Tag Team Championship in a Three Way Tag Team Match that involved United Empire (Great-O-Khan and Jeff Cobb) and Roppongi 3K (Rocky Romero and Trent Beretta). At Music City Mayhem, Aussie Open (Mark Davis and Kyle Fletcher) partnered with fellow United Empire stablemate TJP to defeat FTR and Alex Zayne in a Six Man Tag Team Match. Following the bout, Aussie Open challenged FTR to an IWGP Tag Team Championship Match. On September 12, FTR accepted the challenge, making the match official for Night 1 of Royal Quest II.
