The NJPW IWGP League 1987 was a professional wrestling tournament produced by New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) that took place from May 11 to June 12, 1987. It was the fourteenth edition of what is currently known as the G1 Climax, and the fifth edition to be named the IWGP (International Wrestling Grand Prix) League.

Tournament Summary[]

Fourteen wrestlers were entered into the tournament, competing in two round robin blocks, with the winner of the tournament becoming the first IWGP Heavyweight Champion. The winners of the two blocks faced each other in the final, where Antonio Inoki defeated Masa Saito to win the tournament and become the first IWGP Heavyweight Champion. Tatsumi Fujinami was unable to compete in the tournament due to injury.
