The G1 Climax 1991 was a professional wrestling tournament produced by New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) that took place from August 7 to August 11, 1991. It was the seventeenth edition of the G1 Climax and the first edition to be named the G1 Climax, a name that has stayed with the tournament to the present day.

Tournament Summary[]

Eight wrestlers were entered into the tournament, competing in two round robin blocks. The winner of each block advanced to the final, however, due to Masahiro Chono and Shinya Hashimoto both finishing first in Block B, the pair faced off in a decision match, which Chono won. In the final, Chono defeated Block A winner Keiji Mutoh to win the tournament.
