On April 9, a tournament to determine a number one contender for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship was announced. The participants were revealed to be Hiroshi Tanahashi, Will Ospreay, Lance Archer, and Juice Robinson. At Capital Collision on April 15, Robinson was suspended after he attacked Fred Rosser before their match. Rosser would take Robinson's place in the tournament, and was eliminated by Archer at Collision In Philadelphia on April 16. At Resurgence on May 21, Ospreay defeated Tanahashi, advancing to the final against Archer at Dominion.
At Wrestling Dontaku on May 3, Jeff Cobb challenged Zack Sabre Jr. for the NJPW WORLD Television Championship. However, the match would go to a time limit draw. A rematch between Sabre Jr. and Cobb was scheduled for Dominion.
At Resurgence on May 21, Kyle Fletcher of Aussie Open revealed that his partner, Mark Davis, had been injured. As a result, Aussie Open vacated the IWGP Tag Team Championship and NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championship. In order to crown new champions, it was announced that a Three Way Tag Team Match between Bishamon (Hirooki Goto and YOSHI-HASHI), House Of Torture (EVIL and Yujiro Takahashi), and United Empire (Aaron Henare and Great-O-Khan) would take place at Dominion.
On May 28, Master Wato defeated Titán to win the Best of the Super Juniors tournament. As a result, Wato earned a match with IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Hiromu Takahashi at Dominion.
At Wrestling Dontaku on May 3, SANADA defeated his former stablemate Hiromu Takahashi to retain the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. After the match, Yota Tsuji returned from excursion, attacking SANADA and the rest of his stable, Just Five Guys. It was later announced that SANADA would defend his title against Tsuji at Dominion.
