NEXTREAM is a professional wrestling stable in All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW). The stable was formed after Kento Miyahara's World's Strongest Tag Determination League partner, Suwama, attacked him after refusing to continue teaming with Miyahara, leading to Miyahara beginning a stable with Jake Lee, who is no longer with the group. The stable would go on to include current members Atsuki Aoyagi, Rising HAYATO and Yuma Aoyagi, along with former member Naoya Nomura.

History[]

Formation and various championship reigns (2015-2018)[]

On December 6, 2015, at Real World Tag League 2015 - Night 10, Kento Miyahara & Suwama defeated The Big Guns (The Bodyguard & Zeus) to win the 2015 World's Strongest Tag Determination League. Following the match, Miyahara proposed that he and Suwama continue teaming, however, Suwama refused and attacked Miyahara instead. At a press conference later in the day, Miyahara, accompanied by Jake Lee, announced the creation of a new team. Lee & Miyahara had their debut match together at AJPW Fan Appreciation Show, where they were defeated by Shigehiro Irie & Shuji Ishikawa. On December 25, the team was named NEXTREAM.

At Excite Series 2016 - Night 1, Miyahara defeated Zeus to win the vacant AJPW Triple Crown Championship. On the next night, Lee & Miyahara earned an AJPW Unified World Tag Team Championship opportunity after a victory over Jun Akiyama & Takao Omori, however, NEXTREAM was unsuccessful in winning the championship from The Big Guns at Excite Series 2016 - Night 4. NEXTREAM would have another opportunity to win the Unified World Tag Team Championship at Summer Explosion 2016 - Night 1, but were unsuccessful again, this time being defeated by Strong BJ (Daisuke Sekimoto & Yuji Okabayashi). On September 19, Lee & Miyahara defeated Naoya Nomura & Yuma Aoyagi, inviting Nomura and Aoyagi to join NEXTREAM after the match; Nomura and Aoyagi accepted the invitation. Lee & Miyahara competed in the 2016 World's Strongest Tag Determination League, winning four of their five matches, to win Block A with eight points. However, Lee & Miyahara were defeated in the final by Takao Omori & Manabu Soya.

After an unsuccessful attempt by Lee & Miyahara to win the Unified World Tag Team Championship from The Big Guns on February 17, 2017, and another unsuccessful attempt to win the championship by Lee & Naoya Nomura on May 12, Miyahara lost the Triple Crown Championship on May 21, after he was defeated by Shuji Ishikawa. NEXTREAM finally won the Unified World Tag Team Championship on July 17, after Lee & Nomura defeated The Big Guns. However, fifteen days after winning the championship, NEXTREAM was forced to vacate the title after Lee suffered a knee injury. On August 27, Miyahara would win back the Triple Crown Championship from Shuji Ishikawa. Nomura & Yuma Aoyagi won the AJPW All Asia Tag Team Championship on September 30, from Black Tiger & TAKA Michinoku. On October 9, a month before the 2017 World's Strongest Tag Determination League, Miyahara was defeated by Suwama, losing the Triple Crown Championship.

Yuma Aoyagi & Naoya Nomura competed in the 2017 World's Strongest Tag Determination League, while Miyahara partnered with Yoshitatsu. Aoyagi & Nomura finished the tournament in fourth, winning five of their nine matches, scoring ten points. Miyahara & Yoshitatsu finished in third with ten points, also winning five of their nine matches. Next year, on January 27, 2018, Aoyagi & Nomura vacated the All Asia Tag Team Championship after Aoyagi suffered an ankle injury. After a short reign with Yoshitatsu as Unified World Tag Team Champions, Miyahara won the Triple Crown Championship from Joe Doering at Dream Power Series 2018 - Night 5.

Departures (2018-2020)[]

Upon Jake Lee's return from injury, he announced he was departing from NEXTREAM. At Summer Action Series 2018 - Night 11, Nomura & Aoyagi won the All Asia Tag Team Championship for a second time, however, Miyahara lost the Triple Crown Championship to Zeus on the same night. After winning the 2018 Odo Tournament in September, Miyahara defeated Zeus to win back the Triple Crown Championship at Raising An Army Memorial Series 2018 - Night 11. Aoyagi & Nomura competed in the 2018 World's Strongest Tag Determination League, however, Aoyagi & Nomura only won three of their ten matches, finishing with six points. On February 25, 2019, Nomura would leave NEXTREAM, leading to the All Asia Tag Team Championship being vacated, leaving Aoyagi and Miyahara as the only members of NEXTREAM. In 2019, Miyahara would compete in the Champion Carnival, winning the tournament, however, Aoyagi & Miyahara failed to make the final of the 2019 World's Strongest Tag Determination League.

On January 3, 2020, after Miyahara defended the Triple Crown Championship against Jake Lee, Aoyagi challenged Miyahara to a championship match, adding the stipulation that he would leave NEXTREAM if Miyahara defeated him. At Excite Series 2020 - Night 1, Miyahara defeated Aoyagi, disbanding NEXTREAM.

NEXTREAM reformation (2020-present)[]

In the final of the 2020 Champion Carnival, Miyahara was defeated by Zeus, however, Aoyagi returned to the aid of Miyahara after the match, lifting him on his shoulders. The two then announced that they would compete in the 2020 World's Strong Tag Determination League to reform NEXTREAM. Aoyagi & Miyahara would win the World's Strongest Tag Determination League, winning five out of their seven matches to finish first with ten points. In the beginning of 2021, at New Year Wars 2021 - Night 1, Aoyagi & Miyahara defeated Shuji Ishikawa & Suwama to win the Unified World Tag Team Championship. On January 10, after a match between Rising HAYATO and Atsuki Aoyagi ended in a double knockout, Miyahara and Yuma Aoyagi invited the pair to join NEXTREAM, with their proposal being accepted. NEXTREAM continued to hold the Unified World Tag Team Championship until September, when Miyahara & Yuma Aoyagi were defeated by Shotaro Ashino & Suwama.

Miyahara & Yuma Aoyagi competed in the 2021 World's Strongest Tag Determination League, winning Block B with a total of five points. Miyahara & Aoyagi would defeat Kengo Mashimo & Kazma Sakamoto in the semi-final, before defeating Kuma Arashi & Koji Doi in the final to win the tournament for a second consecutive year. At New Year Wars 2022 - Night 3, Miyahara won the Triple Crown Championship after defeating Ryuki Honda in a tournament final.
