Background
First held in 2010, Money in the Bank is one of World Wrestling Entertainment's "Big Five" events, alongside Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series. The event features the Money in the Bank ladder match, which is held for both the men's and women's divisions, with the winners earn a match contract for a championship of their choosing.
On January 5, 2023, WWE announced that the fourteenth Money in the Bank event would be held on July 1 at the O2 Arena in London, England. This marks WWE's first major event held in England since Insurrextion 2003 and the first Money in the Bank event held outside of the United States. It was further announced that the June 30 episode of SmackDown would also take place at the O2 Arena.

The following week on Raw, Logan Paul revealed that he would take the final place in the Men's Money in the Bank ladder match.
On the May 12 episode of SmackDown, as WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan made a defence, Morgan would injure her shoulder. On the May 15 episode of Raw, Rodriguez was attacked by Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler, who demanded a title shot, with or without Morgan. However, the championship would be vacated on the May 19 episode of SmackDown. On the May 29 episode of Raw, Rousey and Baszler won a Fatal Four Way Tag Team Match to win the vacant championship. On the June 23 episode of SmackDown, Rousey and Baszler unified the title with the NXT Women's Tag Team Championship after beating Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn, with Rodriguez looking on from ringside. After, Rousey and Baszler questioned why Rodriguez was present, with Rodriguez wanting a rematch before introducing a returning Morgan. It was later announced that Rousey and Baszler would defend the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship against Rodriguez and Morgan at Money in the Bank.
On the May 15 episode of Raw, Matt Riddle took part in a battle royal to determine a number one contender for Intercontinental Champion Gunther. However, Riddle was eliminated following an attack from Gunther's Imperium stablemates Giovanni Vinci and Ludwig Kaiser. The following week, Riddle teamed up with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn to defeat Imperium. On the June 12 episode of Raw, after Riddle had lost his match, Gunther and Kaiser would attack him. Later in the night, Riddle attempted to interfere in Gunther and Kaiser's match against Owens and Zayn, costing Gunther and Kaiser the contest. The following week, after Riddle beat Kaiser, Gunther and Kaiser would again attack Riddle. The next week, Riddle would challenge Gunther to an Intercontinental Championship match at Money in the Bank, which was accepted.
On the June 5 episode of Raw, The Miz hosted Cody Rhodes as his guest on Miz TV. Dominik Mysterio, who was accompanied by Rhea Ripley, was introduced as another guest on the show, calling Rhodes a bad father. Rhodes responded by declaring that Dominik's father, Rey, had made a mistake having him as a son. Dominik and Ripley appeared to leave the ring, only for Dominik to slap Rhodes. The following week, as Rhea Ripley was presented with the new Women's World Championship, Rhodes would interrupt, challenging Dominik to a singles match at Money in the Bank. Ripley would accept on behalf of Dominik, making the match official.
At WrestleMania Night 1 on April 1, The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso) lost the Raw Tag Team and SmackDown Tag Team Championships to Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. On the April 28 episode of SmackDown, The Usos failed to regain the titles. At Backlash on May 6, The Usos and their Bloodline stablemate Solo Sikoa defeated Zayn, Owens, and Matt Riddle, despite tension between The Usos and Sikoa. On the May 12 episode of SmackDown, leader of The Bloodline WWE and Universal Champion Roman Reigns demanded that The Usos apologise for failing to win back the titles, with Jey apologising on behalf of Jimmy. The Bloodline's manager, Paul Heyman, then announced that Reigns and Sikoa would challenge for the Raw Tag Team and SmackDown Tag Team Championships at Night of Champions on May 27. At the event, The Usos would attempt to interfere in the match, but would inadvertently attack Sikoa. An infuriated Reigns would shove both The Usos before Jimmy hit him with a superkick. On the June 2 episode of SmackDown, The Usos would interrupt Reigns' 1,000 day champion celebration. Jimmy explained that he attacked Reigns at Night of Champions to protect his brother. The Usos then appeared to have Sikoa join their side, with Jimmy proposing that they all remain as a family. However, Reigns would deny the request, with Sikoa attacking Jimmy. The following week, Heyman attempted to persuade Jey to remain with The Bloodline, giving Jey a United States Championship match. Later in the night, Jey lost his match against United States Champion Austin Theory after Jimmy accidentally attacked Jey. The next week, Jey appeared to side with The Bloodline, only to join Jimmy in attacking Reigns and Sikoa. On the June 17 episode of The SmackDown LowDown, it was announced that Reigns and Sikoa would face The Usos at Money in the Bank.
On the May 8 episode of Raw, Seth Rollins defeated Finn Bálor in the semifinal of a tournament to crown the first World Heavyweight Champion. Rollins would go on to win the tournament and the title at Night of Champions on May 27. On the May 29 episode of Raw, Rollins teamed up with AJ Styles to defeat Bálor and his Judgment Day stablemate Damian Priest. The following week, Rollins defeated Priest to retain his title. After, Rollins and Bálor would have a staredown. On the June 12 episode of Raw, Rollins and Bálor went face-to-face again, with Bálor recalling how he defeated Rollins at SummerSlam 2016 to become the inaugural Universal Champion. However, Bálor would have to relinquish the title the next day due to an injury he suffered in the match.
