Lucha VaVoom is a lucha libre based variety show founded in 2002 by Liz Fairbaim and Rita D'Albert with VaVoom's debut show taking place in August 2002. Lucha VaVoom events include traditional Lucha Libre style matches along with over-the-top burlesque numbers in between matches and live commentary provided by comedians.
Promotion History[]
Lucha VaVoom's debut event took place in August 2003 as a one off event, but because of the response the promotion would hold more shows a year at the Mayan Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, with events taking place during the week of Valentine's Day, mid-summer months, and Halloween time. As the popularity of their shows grew and the more exposure it received, Lucha VaVoom would begin touring to different cities including Toronto, Canada, Las Vegas, NV as part of the first HBO Las Vegas Comedy Festival, San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, Philadelphia, PA, Baltimore, MD, Seattle, WA, and at the Just For Laughs Chicago Festival in Chicago, IL Along with Los Angeles, Lucha VaVoom has held shows in other Southern California cities such as Anaheim, CA, Ventura, CA, and Long Beach, CA during the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Live Events[]
Lucha VaVoom's live events contain a unique blend of Lucha Libre style matches along with a variety of acts between matches. During matches, live color commentary is handled by comedians Tom Kenny, Dana Gould and Blaine Capatch. Other guest commentators have included Fred Armisen, Brian Poussein, Patton Oswalt, Jeffrey Ross, Chris Hardwick, Greg Proops and Bobcat Goldthwait. Along with live wrestling and comedy, Lucha VaVoom features plenty of unique burlesque acts that contain aerial acts, pogo-sticks and hula-hoops. The wrestlers who appear on these events are a blend of Lucha Libre stars and local Southern California wrestlers like Joey Ryan as well as prominent SoCal stars performing under different gimmicks.
