Career[]
Early career[]
Jose was trained by Cuauhtemoc Velasco Vargas (who wrestled as Diablo Velasco) in Puerto Rico in 1977. Rivera wrestled in his native Puerto Rico for Gorilla Monsoon and Victor Jovica's World Wrestling Council (WWC) in 1978 before making his way to the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) in 1980, where he made his debut under the ring moniker of Mac Rivera at a Championship Wrestling Television taping.
WWWF and WWF (1980-1987)[]
Jose Luis Rivera became a reliable utility player in the WWF wrestling in Television enhancement matches under his main persona and alternate masked personas (Shadow #2, The Red Demon, Conquistador #2). However a change in fortune for Rivera would greet his most famous in ring persona as Conquistador #2.
The Conquistadors (1987-1989)[]
Following the break up of the Shadows tag team, Rivera teamed up with former WWF Junior Heavyweight Champion Jose Estrada, they both donned masks and identical outfits and became "The Conquistadors" (not Los Conquistadors as has been erroneously reported). The Conquistadors started as a lower card tag team that mainly appeared on television enhancement matches, they would eventually elevate themselves to legitimate mid-card status. The Conquistadors finest moment was during the Survivor Series 1988 Pay Per View. Rivera's last appearance for the WWF was in 1994.
