Jamin Pugh (January 25, 1984 – January 17, 2023) was an American professional wrestler under the ring name Jay Briscoe. He was best known for his work in a tag team with his brother Mark Briscoe as The Briscoes. In Ring of Honor (ROH) he is a two-time ROH World Champion, a 13-time ROH World Tag Team Champion with his brother, and a one-time ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion with Mark Briscoe and Bully Ray.
In 2022 he was inducted into the ROH Hall of Fame.
Career[]
Combat Zone Wrestling (2001-2003)[]
Jay's debut as a wrestler was made in Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) as a part of a three-on-one match against Trent Acid teaming with Eddie Valentine and Mark Briscoe. At CZW Destruction In Dover he took part of a 7-Man Gauntlet losing against Trent Acid. At the inaugural Best Of The Best Tournament he advanced the first round by defeating Nick Mondo In a three way match in which Mark participated too, the match had the stipulaion that said that whoever lost first would be eliminated, in the Quarter finals he faced his brother in a great match which ended with Jay winning and advancing to the Semi finals where he was defeated by Trent Acid. After losing 2 title opportunities for the CZW Tag Team Championship in CZW Breakaway Brawl and CZW A New Beginning, The brothers finally won the titles on July 14, 2001, after defeating the H8 Club at CZW H8 Club: Dead?, however they lost it in their first title defense against Johnny Kashmere and Justice Pain at CZW What About Lobo?, after that match Mark was not active in the promotion for several months. Jay continued as a single wrestler for those months and even got to face Justice Pain for the CZW World Heavyweight Championship but lost the match. Jay kept wrestling as a single wrestler until Mark came back, Mark came back and for a short time they changed their names to Keno and Kenny Murdoch, with the tag team name of the Midnight Outlaws, The Briscoes went out of CZW until the third edition of the best of the best tournament after a year, in the first round of the tournament Jay was part of a four way match against Jimmy Rave, A.J. Styles and Jason Cross with Jimmy Rave and Him advancing to the next round, in the Quarter finals Jay defeated Jimmy rave advancing to the semifinals where he lost to B-Boy. After failing to win the tournament, Jay and Mark challenged the Tag Champions The Backseat Boyz but ended losing their opportunity.
