Production[]
Background[]
Rebellion is a professional wrestling event produced by Impact Wrestling. It is annually held during the month of April, and the event was first held in 2019. At Hard To Kill, Impact Wrestling announced Rebellion would take place in on April 23, 2022 in Poughkeepsie, New York at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center.
Storylines[]
The event featured several professional wrestling matches that involved different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds and storylines. Wrestlers portrayed villains, heroes, or less distinguishable characters in scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches.
At Bound for Glory, Josh Alexander defeated Christian Cage to win the Impact World Championship. However, while Alexander was celebrating in the ring with his wife and young son, Moose - who earlier won the Call Your Shot Gauntlet match - ambushed him, invoked his opportunity, and immediately captured the title. In the following months, Alexander would go on a rampage, wanting to get his hands on Moose, but was repeatedly denied by Impact Executive Vice President, Scott D'Amore. On the February 17 episode of Impact!, Alexander defeated Big Kon, but continued to punish him after the bell. Security would try to intervene, but Alexander would push them away. He even pushed D'Amore to the ground when he tried to stop Alexander. As a result, D'Amore would send Alexander home, as a kayfabe explanation for Alexander's contract and work visa expiring. At Sacrifice, after Moose retained the Impact World CHampionship against Heath, Alexander returned and laid Moose out. He announced that he had signed a new multi-year Impact contract, and that he finally signed his rematch clause for the main event of Rebellion.
