Emergence was a professional wrestling event produced by Impact Wrestling. It took place on August 12, 2022 at Cicero Stadium in Cicero, Illinois. The event was broadcast on Impact Plus while the pre-show was broadcast on YouTube.

Background[]

Impact Wrestling announced on June 24, 2022, that the third Emergence event would take place on August 12, 2022 at the Cicero Stadium in Cicero, Illinois.

Storylines[]

On the July 7, 2022 episode of iMPACT!, Bhupinder Gujjar challenged Brian Myers to an Impact Digital Media Championship Match, however, Myers stated Gujjar needed to face Johnny Swinger first. After defeating Swinger on the July 14, 2022 episode of Before The Impact, Gujjar continued to go through obstacles placed by Myers, with Gujjar defeating Vincent before Myers gave a title match to Black Taurus. After Myers had defeated Taurus, Gujjar attacked Myers, making his desired title match official for Emergence.

On the July 21, 2022 episode of iMPACT!, Deonna Purrazzo and Chelsea Green defeated Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace and number one contender Mia Yim after Purrazzo pinned Yim. Later in the night, Purrazzo demanded that she be added to the Knockouts Championship Match at Emergence, however, Gail Kim instead granted Purrazzo and Green a match against Knockouts Tag Team Champions Rosemary and Taya Valkyrie.

After being unable to compete in the Ultimate X Match at Slammiversary due to injury, Jack Evans was granted an X Division Championship Match at Emergence. On the August 11, 2022 episode of iMPACT!, X Division Champion Mike Bailey defeated Rocky Romero, confirming that Evans would face Bailey at Emergence.

Following Alex Shelley's victory over his partner Chris Sabin to become the number one contender to the Impact World Championship, both men were attacked by Joe Doering and Deaner of Violent By Design. However, KUSHIDA, Shelley's former partner in multiple promotions, made the save. On the August 4, 2022 episode of iMPACT!, Shelley and Sabin defeated Doering and Deaner, with Violent By Design once again attacking after the bell. KUSHIDA attempted to help Shelley and Sabin but was met with a piledriver from Violent By Design leader Eric Young. It was announced later that night that Sabin and KUSHIDA would take on Doering and Deaner at Emergence.

On July 21, 2022, it was announced that as part of a partnership with Mexican promotion Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, Bandido would face Rey Horus at Emergence.

At Against All Odds, Steve Maclin assisted Moose in defeating Sami Callihan, however, it was not revealed why Maclin had helped Moose. With Moose and Maclin denying an alliance, Callihan ambushed Maclin while he was being interviewed on the July 21, 2022 episode of iMPACT!. As a brawl broke out, Moose also became involved. However, Callihan was able to escape before he was hit with a bin. Following his victory over Raj Singh on the August 4, 2022 episode of iMPACT!, Callihan was ambushed by Maclin and Moose. It was later announced that Callihan would face Maclin in a grudge match at Emergence.

On the July 14, 2022 episode of iMPACT!, Honor No More (Eddie Edwards, Kenny King, Matt Taven and Mike Bennett) defeated BULLET CLUB (Ace Austin, Chris Bey, Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows) after Taven pinned Gallows. The next week, Honor No More protested about the lack of championship opportunities they had received, especially after they had pinned Luke Gallows, one half of the Impact World Tag Team Champions. However, later that night, Taven and Bennett suffered a loss to Ace Austin and Chris Bey. On the July 28, 2022 episode of iMPACT!, Honor No More began causing production interruptions from the production truck. Once Impact Executive Vice President Scott D'Amore confronted Honor No More, he granted them an opportunity to earn the title shot they desired, announcing that at Emergence, Honor No More would face BULLET CLUB in a Ten Man Tag Team Match with the stipulation that if Honor No More wins, they receive an Impact World Tag Team Championship Match, while if BULLET CLUB wins, Honor No More must disband.

In the wake of Jordynne Grace retaining the Impact Knockouts Championship against Tasha Steelz at Against All Odds, Mia Yim defeated Deonna Purrazzo on the July 7, 2022 episode of iMPACT! to become the number one contender, making a match between Grace and Yim official for Emergence.

After the Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) teamed up with Impact World Champion Josh Alexander to defeat Violent By Design (Eric Young, Joe Doering and Deaner) on the July 14, 2022 episode of iMPACT!, both Shelley and Sabin turned their attention to the Impact World Championship. Later in the night, Sabin informed Impact Executive Vice President Scott D'Amore of his intention to challenge Alexander, however, D'Amore announced that he would have to face his partner Shelley in a number one contendership match. The following week, Shelley defeated Sabin in order to earn his first Impact World Championship opportunity.
