Impact Wrestling Emergence 2021 was a professional wrestling event that was produced by Impact Wrestling which aired on August 20, 2021. The event was broadcast on IMPACT Plus.

Background[]

At the August 5 episode of Impact, there was a 4 way match between Jake Something, Daivari, Rohit Raju and Trey Miguel to decide the #1 Contender for Josh Alexander's X Division Championship, and it was won by Something. On the following episode, after the champion defeated Daivari in a singles match, Something walked to the ring to grab his title and stare him in the face before returning it. On the episode after that, while Josh was giving an interview, Something felt he wasn't being taken seriously enough, so he asked Scott D'Amore for a match, and the vice president booked him in a No DQ match against Kaleb with a K, which he won quickly and dominantly. Afterwards, Josh walked out to confront him.

After Something became the #1 Contender, Rohit had a fit of rage backstage for losing, in which he nearly accidentally hurt Chelsea Green, causing Matt Cardona to get angry at him. At the August 12 episode, Rohit & Shera distracted Cardona during his match against John Skyler, leading him to lose. On August 19 it was announced that Cardona would face Rohit at Emergence, and on that same night he had a match against Shera, which he won.

On August 12 Brian Myers won a battle royal to become the #1 Contender for the Impact World Championship, just one day before Christian Cage defeated Kenny Omega at AEW Rampage to become the champion. On August 19 Christian appeared on Impact for the first time in 9 years, and Myers, along with his apprentice Sam Beale, came out to taunt him, then attempted an attack, but Christian fought them off.

At the August 19 episode of Impact it was announced that Sami Callihan, Chris Sabin, Moose and Ace Austin were going to face off in a 4-Way match at Emergence to decide the next #1 Contender for the Impact World Championship, and on that same episode, they were put on a tag team match that was won by the team of Callihan & Sabin, though they weren't on the same page, as Callihan attacked his partner after the match.

At Homecoming, after Petey Williams & Jordynne Grace lost their match against Matt Cardona & Chelsea Green, Steve Maclin ran in to attack Petey. Later that night, he explained that he did it to climb the ranks of the X Division. On August 5, Maclin tried to attack Jah-C after defeating him in a match, but Petey rushed in to fight him off. On August 12, Petey competed in a battle royal to determine the #1 Contender for the Impact World Championship, but got eliminated by an invading Maclin. On the August 19 episode, a match between the two at Emergence was confirmed.

Also at Homecoming, Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo teamed with the debuting Matthew Rehwoldt to compete in and ultimately win the Homecoming King & Queen Tournament. At the August 5 episode of Impact Deonna learned that she was going to defend her title against Melina at NWA EmPowerrr. On August 19, Melina had a flirty chat with Trey Miguel backstage before her match against Brandi Lauren. After Melina won the match she got attacked by Deonna & Rehwoldt, and Trey ran in to help her fight back. Later in the night, a tag team match was announced for Emergence.

Back at Under Siege, Taylor Wilde teamed with Tenille Dashwood to beat Kimber Lee & Susan, but that would be her last Impact appearance for a while. She returned at July 22 to stop an interference from Kaleb with a K in a tag team match, causing Tenille to lose. Wilde defeated Kaleb in a singles match at the next episode, and on the episode after that, explained that she was gone from the company because of legal troubles regarding her canadian citizenship, implying they were caused by Tenille and Kaleb. On August 12 she had a singles match against Tenille, but lost after interference from a returning Madison Rayne. On August 19, Madison & Tenille confirmed their alliance on Madison's talk show Locker Room Talk, and on that same episode, a singles match between Wilde and Madison was announced for Emergence.

The Good Brothers captured the World Tag Team Championships from Violent By Design at Slammiversary by pinning Rhino. On the July 29 episode of Impact, Rich Swann & Willie Mack defeated VBD, again, by pinning Rhino. Ever since then, tensions between Rhino and the rest of the faction kept rising, with Eric Young cutting multiple promos alluding to it. At the August 5 episode, VBD went to Scott D'Amore's office to demand a rematch for the titles, but he decided to make it a triple threat including Rich & Mack due to their win over them.

Decay (Rosemary & Havok) defeated Fire 'N Flava at the Slammiversary pre-show to win the Knockouts Tag Team Championships, with Kiera being the one pinned. They had a rematch at the following episode of Impact, which Decay again won by pinning Kiera. At the August 5 episode, Fire 'N Flava had a match against Jordynne Grace & Rachael Ellering, in which Kiera got pinned again. Tasha got tired of her partner constantly costing her wins, so she allied herself with the debuting Savannah Evans and let her attack Kiera, effectively ending Fire 'N Flava. In the next episode, Kiera cut a promo in the ring daring Tasha to confront her, when she got attacked and kidnapped by Su Yung & Kimber Lee in what would be her last Impact appearance. Meanwhile, Fallah Bahh had been feuding with Decay ever since his match against them at Homecoming. On August 12 he asked Tasha & Evans to help him, and they accepted. Tasha faced Havok at the August 19 episode of Before The Impact and won after interference from Evans. An 8-person match between Tasha, Evans, Fallah & No Way and Decay was announced for Emergence that same night.

Event[]

The PPV opened with a singles match between Matt Cardona and Rohit Raju, with Chelsea Green and Shera respectively. Rohit tried to win with a schoolboy with his feet on the ropes, but the referee noticed it and stopped the count, and Cardona hit Radio Silence to win. Shera attacked him after the match, and Chelsea had to talk him out of it before he caused too much damage.

After that was an 8-person tag team match, where Tasha Steelz, Savannah Evans, Fallah Bahh & No Way went up against Decay. A double spear from Taurus & Rosemary on Fallah got the win for their faction.

Eric Young cut a promo backstage along with the rest of Violent By Design, and after that was Steve Maclin vs. Petey Williams. Petey had Maclin in a Sharpshooter, and Maclin fought out of it by biting his hand, then hit a low blow and the Michinoku Driver II-B to get the victory.

Taylor Wilde had an interview right before her match against Madison Rayne, who was accompanied by Tenille Dashwood & Kaleb with a K. Wilde had the match won after a german suplex, but Kaleb stopped the referee's count. Tenille then attacked Wilde, allowing Madison to roll her up in a schoolgirl and win the match.

The Good Brothers were interviewed, and next was a 4-way Impact World Championship #1 Contender's match: Moose vs. Ace Austin (with Madman Fulton) vs. Chris Sabin vs. Sami Callihan. In the middle of the match, Ace hit The Fold on Callihan and Callihan piledrove Ace, but both of them kicked out. Callihan later piledrove Sabin and hit Moose with a chair, and Ace used the opportunity to roll him up and get the win.

There was an interview with Brian Myers & Sam Beale. The next match had Jake Something challenge Josh Alexander for the X Divison Championship. Highlights included Something countering Josh's suicide crossbody into a death valley driver on the floor, and Josh hitting 10 german suplexes in a row. A C4 Spike on the apron followed by another one inside the ring allowed the champion to retain the title, and the two competitor shook hands after the bout.

An interview with Deonna Purrazzo & Matthew Rehwoldt was followed by a match between them and the team of Trey Miguel & Melina. Rehwoldt got the win for his team with a small package on Melina.

An interview with Christian Cage, and then The Good Brothers defended the World Tag Team Championships against Violent By Design (Rhino & Joe Doering, with Eric Young & Deaner) and Rich Swann & Willie Mack in a triple threat match. Karl performed a schoolboy on Rhino to retain the titles. Young scolded Rhino after the match.

The main event was an Impact World Championship match between challenger Brian Myers, with Sam Beale, and champion Christian Cage. Christian had the advantage early in the match, but a distraction from Beale allowed Myers to slam him into the apron, then get a near fall with the Downward Spiral. Christian dodged the Heat Seeking Elbow and got the advantage again, but after another distraction, Myers hit a spear for another near fall. Christian nailed a tornado DDT and attempted the Killswitch, just for Myers to counter by running into the ropes.  Myers tried to end things with the Roster Cut, but Christian countered with a spear of his own and followed with the Killswitch to get the win and retain the championship.
