Impact Wrestling held the first Multiverse event, dubbed Multiverse of Matches, on April 1, 2022, which featured wrestlers from Impact's partner promotions. The second Multiverse event, Multiverse United, was held on March 30, 2023, and was co-produced by Impact and New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW). On April 16, 2023, it was announced that a third Multiverse event, Multiverse United 2, would be produced by Impact and NJPW, taking place on August 20 at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
