The GCW World Championship is a professional wrestling championship promoted by Game Changer Wrestling (GCW). Originally introduced when the promotion was known as Jersey Championship Wrestling (JCW), the championship was known as the JCW Heavyweight Championship until July 2015, when the title was renamed following the rebranding of the company.
History[]
The GCW World Championship was originally introduced as the JCW Heavyweight Championship by Jersey Championship Wrestling (JCW), with Andrew Anderson becoming the inaugural champion after defeating Nick Maddox in a tournament final. In 2004, during Homicide's reign as champion, Jersey Championship Wrestling was sold to National Wrestling Superstars, leaving both the championship and company inactive. Following the closure of National Wrestling Superstars in September of 2013, Ricky Otazu, the original founder of JCW, regained the rights to the promotion and brought the company out of inactivity, with Damien Darling winning the vacant JCW Heavyweight Championship in November. In June of 2015, during Tama Tonga's reign as champion, JCW was rebranded as Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) following the sale of the company to new owners, with the championship being renamed the GCW World Championship.
