Full Gear 2022 was a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by All Elite Wrestling (AEW). It took place on November 19, 2022 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. It was the fourth event in the Full Gear chronology.

Background[]

On September 4, 2022, during All Out, it was announced that the fourth Full Gear event would take place on November 19, 2022, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. It was also announced that a live episode of Rampage would be held at the same venue the night prior to Full Gear. On September 23, tickets for both events went on sale.

Storylines[]

On the November 2, 2022 episode of Dynamite, following Darby Allin's loss to Jay Lethal after interference from Cole Karter, Sting would aid Allin before Jeff Jarrett debuted, nailing Allin with a guitar. Jarrett would then go on to call out Allin and Sting. The following week, it was announced that Jarrett would team with Lethal to take on Allin and Sting at Full Gear.

On the November 9, 2022 episode of Dynamite, Tony Schiavone hosted a face-to-face between Saraya and Dr. Britt Baker DMD. Saraya announced she had been cleared to wrestle before the two women traded verbal blows, with Saraya declaring she would face Baker at Full Gear.

After Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus) lost the AEW World Tag Team Championship to The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) on the June 15, 2022 episode of Dynamite, Christian Cage, the manager of Jurassic Express, betrayed his team, attacking Jungle Boy. Luchasaurus would form an alliance with Cage, however, on the July 20 episode of Dynamite, Luchasaurus appeared to reunite with Jungle Boy. The reunion was short lived, as Luchasaurus aided Cage in defeating Jungle Boy at All Out. On the October 12 episode of Dynamite, Jungle Boy was defeated by Luchasaurus before Jungle Boy prevented Luchasaurus from winning the All-Atlantic Championship on the November 2 epiosde of Dynamite. Jungle Boy would confront Luchasaurus and Cage on the November 11 episode of Rampage, challenging Luchasaurus to a Steel Cage Match at Full Gear, which was made official that night.

At All Out, The Elite (Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) defeated Adam Page and The Dark Order (Alex Reynolds and John Silver) to become the inaugural AEW World Trios Champions. However, following a backstage altercation after the show, The Elite were suspended and stripped of the championship. On the September 7, 2022 episode of Dynamite, Death Triangle (PAC, Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix) defeated Orange Cassidy and Best Friends (Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta) to win the vacant championship. On the November 16 episode of Dynamite, following Death Triangle's win over AR Fox and Top Flight (Darius Martin and Dante Martin), it was announced that The Elite would challenge Death Triangle at Full Gear.

Following TNT Champion Wardlow's victory over Ari Daivari on the November 9, 2022 episode of Dynamite, Wardlow called out Powerhouse Hobbs. Hobbs made his way out, however, Wardlow was attacked from behind by his recent tag team partner, Samoa Joe. The following week, all three men were involved in a brawl, and as a result, it was announced that Wardlow would defend the TNT Championship against Joe and Hobbs in a Three Way Match at Full Gear.

At Battle of the Belts IV, following TBS Champion Jade Cargill's successful defence against Willow Nightingale, Nyla Rose stole the TBS Championship from Cargill with assistance from Vickie Guerrero. Rose would go on to elude Cargill's attempts to regain her title, with a match between Cargill and Rose being scheduled for Full Gear.

On the October 28, 2022 episode of Rampage, it was announced that the 2022 AEW World Championship Eliminator Tournament would take place in the following weeks, culminating at Full Gear, with the winner earning an AEW World Championship Match at Winter Is Coming. However, on November 17, it was announced that the final of the tournament would be moved to the November 23 episode of Dynamite.

At All Out, Swerve In Our Glory (Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland) successfully retained the AEW World Tag Team Championship against The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens and Max Caster). However, in a rematch at Grand Slam, The Acclaimed defeated Swerve In Our Glory to win the championship. On the October 26, 2022 episode of Dynamite, Swerve In Our Glory became the number one contenders for the title after scoring a victory over FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood), earning a third match against The Acclaimed at Full Gear.

At Grand Slam, Chris Jericho defeated Claudio Castagnoli to win the ROH World Championship. Jericho would go on to successfully defend the title against Bryan Danielson, after interference from Daniel Garcia, on the October 12, 2022 episode of Dynamite. On the November 4 episode of Rampage, Castagnoli and Danielson, both members of the Blackpool Combat Club, expressed their interest to challenge Jericho. Later that night, Jericho announced he would defend the championship against Castagnoli and Danielson in a Four Way Match at Full Gear, introducing his Jericho Appreciation Society stablemate, Sammy Guevara, as the fourth man in the match.

On the October 26, 2022 episode of Dynamite, Jamie Hayter defeated former AEW Women's World Champion Riho. The following week, it was announced that Hayter would challenge Interim AEW Women's World Champion Toni Storm at Full Gear.

Following his absence after Double or Nothing, MJF returned at All Out as the "Joker" entrant in the Casino Ladder Match, winning the chip, allowing him to challenge for the AEW World Championship at a time of his choosing. On the October 18, 2022 episode of Dynamite, following AEW World Champion Jon Moxley's successful defence against Adam Page, Moxley challenged MJF to cash in his chip that night. However, MJF countered, announcing he was cashing in the chip to challenge Moxley at Full Gear.
