Alberto Del Rio will have one more opportunity to reclaim the United States Title when he invokes his rematch clause against the champion, Kalisto, at WWE Fastlane.
Since the start of 2016, the U.S. Championship has swung back and forth between Kalisto and Del Rio three times. The masked Superstar originally upset Del Rio to win the U.S. Title on the Jan. 11 edition of SmackDown. Days later, however, The Essence of Execution rebounded and, with the help of his League of Nations teammate King Barrett, reclaimed the championship gold on SmackDown. Yet Del Rio's game plan for the highflier faltered again at Royal Rumble, where Kalisto regained the championship.
Kalisto has endured bumps and bruises along the way. Thanks to his size advantage, the 6-foot-5 Del Rio has never looked happier than when he is trying to tear Kalisto apart limb by limb, or ripping off Kalisto's sacred mask, or as he likes to put it, squashing Kalisto “like a mosquito.” His attempt at thorough decimation has, at times, backfired as a result of overconfidence, though, giving the lightning-fast Lucha Dragon opportunities to capitalize. Del Rio insists Kalisto's recent success as a singles competitor is pure luck.
Still, the 2015 Slammy Award winner for OMG Moment of the Year is nothing if not fast, fearless and agile. At WWE Fastlane, will Del Rio again realize that the so-called “mosquito” packs a walloping bite?
