Riley Vigier (October 24, 1986) is a Canadian professional wrestler currently known by the ring name El Phantasmo. He is a three-time ECCW Champion. In New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), he is a former three-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion.
Career[]
Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling (2005-2020)[]
Vigier began his career in Elite Canadian Championship Wrestling (ECCW) in October 2005, wrestling under the name El Phantasmo. Phantasmo would go on to with form a tag team with Amazing Halo, winning the ECCW Tag Team Championship on May 5, 2007. However, on July 27, Phantasmo and Halo lost the title to Disco Fury and Michelle Starr in a Six Man Tag Team Match. On July 6, 2013, El Phantasmo won the ECCW Championship after winning a Four Way TLC Match. Phantasmo would lose the title to Randy Myers the following year. On January 16, 2016, Phantasmo would regain the ECCW Championship after defeating Scotty Mac in a Steel Cage Match. After a 364 day reign, Phantasmo lost the title to Kyle O'Reilly on January 14, 2017. After winning a Three Way Match on January 20, 2018, Phantasmo would capture the ECCW Championship for a third time. On January 11, 2019, Phantasmo was defeated by Artemis Spencer, ending his reign.
Revolution Pro Wrestling (2017-2020)[]
On June 4, 2017, Phantasmo debuted for Revolution Pro Wrestling (RevPro), losing to David Starr. Phantasmo took part in a Five Way Match for the RevPro Undisputed British Cruiserweight Championship on December 8, but failed to win. The following year, on March 4, Phantasmo unsuccessfully challenged RevPro Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion Zack Sabre Jr. Later that year, in September, Phantasmo would win the British J Cup. Phantasmo would finally win the Undisputed British Cruiserweight Championship on May 10, 2019, after defeating David Starr in a Ladder Match. After a 280 day reign, Phantasmo was dethroned by Michael Oku on February 14, 2020.
New Japan Pro Wrestling (2019-present)[]
Junior Heavyweight division (2019-2022)[]
On March 8, 2019, a vignette was shown, revealing that El Phantasmo would debut for New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) as the newest member of BULLET CLUB. Phantasmo debuted on May 4 at Wrestling Dontaku - Night 2, winning a tag team match after pinning Will Ospreay. Later, Phantasmo competed in the 2019 Best of the Super Juniors tournament, finishing with twelve points in Block B, failing to advance. Soon after the tournament's conclusion, Phantasmo and Taiji Ishimori would defeat Roppongi 3K (SHO and YOH) to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship. In August, Phantasmo competed in the Super J Cup, making his way to the final, where he defeated Dragon Lee to win the tournament. At Destruction In Kagoshima on September 16, Phantasmo and Ishimori made their first defence of the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship, defeating Will Ospreay and Robbie Eagles. The following month, at King of Pro Wrestling, Phantasmo failed to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship from Ospreay. Phantasmo and Ishimori would then compete in the 2019 Super Junior Tag League, but failed to advance to the final after finishing with ten points. On January 5, 2020, at Wrestle Kingdom 14 - Night 2, Phantasmo and Ishimori lost the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship to Roppongi 3K, who had won the Super Junior Tag League.
Later that year, on December 12, Phantasmo won the 2020 Super J Cup after defeating ACH in the final. After the match, Phantasmo would call out Hiromu Takahashi. As a result, Phantasmo faced Takahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 15 - Night 1 on January 4, 2021, but was defeated. Later that month, at Road To The New Beginning - Night 5, Phantasmo and Ishimori defeated El Desperado and Yoshinobu Kanemaru to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship for a second time. However, the following month, Phantasmo and Ishimori would lose the title back to Desperado and Kanemaru at Road To Castle Attack - Night 8. Three days later, at Castle Attack - Night 2, Phantasmo failed to win the vacant IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship in a Three Way Match. On June 23, at Kizuna Road - Night 7, Phantasmo and Ishimori won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship for a third time after beating Roppongi 3K. At Wrestle Grand Slam In Tokyo Dome on July 25, Phantasmo and Ishimori successfully defended their title against Rocky Romero and Ryusuke Taguchi. Phantasmo and Ishimori would then compete in the 2021 Super Junior Tag League, finishing with eight points and thus, failing to win the tournament. On September 5, at Wrestle Grand Slam In MetLife Dome - Night 2, Phantasmo and Ishimori lost the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship to Super Junior Tag League winners El Desperado and Yoshinobu Kanemaru.
In November and December, Phantasmo competed in the 2021 Best of the Super Juniors, finishing the tournament with twelve points, failing to advance to the final. On January 5, 2022, at Wrestle Kingdom 16 - Night 2, Phantasmo and Ishimori attempted to regain the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship in a Three Way Tag Team Match, but were unsuccessful. Expressing interest in moving to the heavyweight division, Phantasmo would compete in the 2022 New Japan Cup. However, after receiving a bye to the second round, Phantasmo would be eliminated by Will Ospreay. On April 9 at Hyper Battle - Night 5, Phantasmo and Ishimori failed to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship from Six Or Nine (Master Wato and Ryusuke Taguchi). The following month, Phantasmo competed in the 2022 Best of the Super Juniors, finishing with twelve points in Block B, failing to advance due to a loss to El Desperado. At AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door on June 26, Phantasmo teamed up with The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) in a loss to Darby Allin, Sting, and Shingo Takagi.
Heavyweight division (2022-present)[]
In July and August, Phantasmo competed in the 2022 G1 Climax, finishing second in Block D with six points. At the end of the tournament, Phantasmo revealed he would be transitioning to the heavyweight division. Having defeated Shingo Takagi during the G1 Climax, Phantasmo would challenge for Takagi's KOPW Championship in a Who's Your Daddy Match at Declaration of Power on October 10. However, Phantasmo was defeated by Takagi. Later that month at Rumble On 44th Street, Phantasmo challenged Takagi again, this time in a New York City Street Fight, but was defeated. On January 4, 2023, at Wrestle Kingdom 17, Phantasmo competed in the New Japan Rambo Match, but failed to win. On February 11, at The New Beginning In Osaka, Phantasmo was unsuccessful in winning the NEVER Openweight Championship from Tama Tonga.
Impact Wrestling (2021-2022)[]
On the May 6, 2021 episode of iMPACT!, Phantasmo made his debut for Impact Wrestling, defeating VSK. The following week, Phantasmo won a Six Way Scramble Match, earning an X Division Championship opportunity. At Under Siege on May 15, Phantasmo faced X Division Champion Josh Alexander, but was defeated. In October, Phantasmo competed in a tournament for the vacant X Division Championship, advancing to the final after winning a Three Way Match against Rohit Raju and Willie Mack. On October 23, at Bound for Glory, Phantasmo failed to win the title in a Three Way Match that involved Trey Miguel and Steve Maclin.
