CM Punk & Curtis Axel was a professional wrestling tag team in WWE, consisting of CM Punk and Curtis Axel and managed by Paul Heyman.

Background[]

Back in 2010, when Axel was known as Michael McGillicutty, he was recruited as a member of the Nexus in October before it was taken over as the New Nexus by Punk in December. CM Punk had been close friends (and held the World Tag Team Championship) with McGillicutty's NXT mentor, Kofi Kingston, prior to turning heel and forming the Straight Edge Society.

They were allies until mid-2011 the New Nexus began to fall apart, with Punk leaving in July and McGillicutty in August when David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty lost the tag titles they held with the aid of Punk's New Nexus.
