All Elite Wrestling (AEW) held the inaugural Battle of the Belts event on January 8, 2022. A one hour television special, each Battle of the Belts event exclusively features championship matches. With the announcement of Battle of the Belts VI, it was revealed that the event would take place at the Ryan Center in Kingston, Rhode Island on April 7, 2023.

On April 5, three matches were announced for the sixth Battle of the Belts event: Orange Cassidy defending the AEW International Championship against Dralistico, Billie Starkz facing TBS Champion Jade Cargill, and The Lucha Brothers (Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix) defending their ROH World Tag Team Championship against Powerhouse Hobbs and QT Marshall.
