Battle of the Belts IV was a professional wrestling television special produced by All Elite Wrestling (AEW). The event aired live from the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C. on October 7, 2022 following Rampage. It was the fourth Battle of the Belts event.

Production[]

Background[]

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) held the inaugural Battle of the Belts event on January 8, 2022. A one hour television special, each Battle of the Belts event exclusively features championship matches. Battle of the Belts II and III were both taped on Friday following that week's episode of Rampage and aired on tape delay the following night. On August 4, 2022, AEW announced that Battle of the Belts IV would be held on October 7 at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C.. The event was originally scheduled to be taped following Rampage and aired the following night, however, due to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) holding Extreme Rules that following night, it was announced that Battle of the Belts IV would air live following Rampage.

Storylines[]

On the October 5, 2022 episode of Dynamite, Athena, Toni Storm and Willow Nightingale defeated Jamie Hayter, Penelope Ford and Serena Deeb in a Six Woman Tag Team Match after Nightingale pinned Ford. Later in the night, Nightingale challenged TBS Champion Jade Cargill. Cargill confronted Nightingale, stating she had already beaten Nightingale. Nightingale responded by declaring she would end Cargill's winning streak and as a result, a TBS Championship Match between Cargill and Nightingale was announced for Battle of the Belts.

On the October 5, 2022 episode of Dynamite, Wardlow defeated Brian Cage to retain the TNT Championship. After the match, The Gates of Agony (Kaun and Toa Liona) ambushed Wardlow. Samoa Joe made his way to the ring to help Wardlow but was overpowered, with Cage, Kaun, and Liona beating down Wardlow and Joe. FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood), who had teamed with Wardlow at All Out, came to the assistance of Wardlow and Joe, staring down The Gates of Agony. It was announced that night that FTR would defend the ROH World Tag Team Championship against The Gates of Agony at Battle of the Belts.

On the September 21, 2022 episode of Dynamite, PAC successfully defended the All-Atlantic Championship against Orange Cassidy after hitting Cassidy with the timekeeper's hammer. On the September 30 episode of Rampage, with Cassidy absent due to being hurt, Trent Beretta, one of Cassidy's allies, promised to hurt PAC in return, setting up an All-Atlantic Championship match between PAC and Beretta at Battle of the Belts.
