The August 9, 1986 Edition of WWF Championship Wrestling is a Professional wrestling television show of the World Wrestling Federation, which took place on July 15, 1986 at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center at Poughkeepsie, New York.
This episode is notable for the introduction of Slick, a smooth-talking, soul brother-type, dancing manager (nicknamed "The Doctor of Style") who would succeed Freddie Blassie as manager of The Iron Sheik, Nikolai Volkoff and Hercules Hernandez. Blassie was experiencing some health problems that were forcing him to curtail his schedule -- the WWF was about to embark on regular nationwide tours, unlike before where several weeks' worth TV programs were taped at arenas in Toronto and in New York state (which the 66-year-old Blassie could handle) -- and the WWF's talent scouts liked what they saw in Ken Johnson, a 29-year-old Fort Worth, Texas native who, using the name Slick, had established a following in Texas All-Star Wrestling as a heel manager and sometimes wrestler. Blassie would mentor Johnson (both behind the scenes and on-camera) for several weeks into the fall of 1986 before retiring from the road. Blassie would remain associated with the WWF as an adviser and confidant to Vince McMahon, occasional on-screen personality and beloved ambassador for the rest of his life.

- Starting with this match, Orndorff came to the ring using Hulk Hogan's theme, "Real American," and mimicking Hogan's routines (flexing, cupping his ear to "listen" for fan reaction, etc.), which would continue until the end of their feud in early 1987.
