History[]
On July 27, 2022, during Fight for the Fallen, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) announced the creation of the AEW World Trios Championship. It was also announced that the inaugural champions would be decided in a tournament, with the final taking place at All Out. The tournament bracket was revealed on the August 10, 2022 episode of Dynamite. At All Out, The Elite (Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) become the inaugural champions after defeating Adam Page and The Dark Order (Alex Reynolds and John Silver) in the tournament final.
Following the All Out 2022 media scrum, inaugural AEW World Trios Champions, The Elite, engaged in a legitimate physical altercation with CM Punk and his friend Ace Steel. Punk, Omega, and the Jackson brothers were consequently suspended. On the September 7th episode of Dynamite, AEW President Tony Khan announced that the AEW World Trios Championship, had been vacated 3 days after the inaugural champions had been crowned. A match was announced the same night between Best Friends and Death Triangle to crown new champions.
