- 2: At the Alhambra Arena, Jack Carkeek challenges any comer to meet him under Greco Roman rules, best-two-of-three falls, a cash stake to be awarded whoever can survive ten minutes. The challenge is conspicuously altered to refer specifically to British wrestlers when George Hackenschmidt attempts to respond.

- 4: George Hackenschmidt defeats Tom Cannon in Liverpool, England to win the European Greco Roman championship.
December
- 25: Dan McLeod recaptures the American Freestyle title by overwhelming Tom Jenkins in Worchester, Massachusetts. Jenkins was hindered by a leg injury caused by blood poisoning, and was forced to forfeit the deciding fall after more than ninety minutes of action.
